445 vs 405

445nm hands down.

Now as a side note, people who post stupid, pointless threads like this, tend to enrage the rest of the community, all the information is on this forum, you just have to take the time to read it.

Welcome to the forum BTW.

1.2W of 445nm will burn better but 405nm diodes are single mode and can be focused to a smaller point and 405nm is a smaller wavelength and is more easily absorbed by materials.

Also, next time do a search your answer can be easily found without opening a new thread.

Well... my 405nm pen @ 800mw can outburn my 1300mw 445 , because it is single mode... i can burn white objects much faster. and everything in between black and white. :)

Thanks guys, I have looked around on the forums and done my research and I figured the 1.2w would be best. But, I have seen a few posts from owners of both types of lasers and they have said the 405 is better such as the dude who posted last. But yeah, thanks :)

yuck, feels nasty for a newby to make his decision based on just mw output as opposed to wavelgnth... but tis life ;)

500mw 405 vs 445 1.2w... Which would burn better?

Compare the two at 30+ feet each focused as tight as possible, and see how much the 445nm "dot" doesn't burn squat when it's spread out to almost an inch long at a distance :D

Up close both burn very well...

I totally agree with clif.
At a distance greater than a few feet the 405 blows the doors off a 445.
Up close, higher power wins.

Agreed. With 445 diodes being multimode they can't be focused to a tight point past a couple of feet whereas a 405 diode can be focused to a tight point even at 20 ft away so between that and the fact that 405 burns well due to better absorption it could be considered better over all. In the end the answer to this question depends on the distance you plan on burning at.

I've popped balloons from 15-20 feet away with 405nm 4x lasers @ ~150mw with ease... :p heeheehee

I've also burned through a bag of Doritos through a vending machine window with a 1 watt 445nm from maybe 10 feet also, took a steady hand and a little time though - the chips didn't taste burnt though.

hahahaha I like it.

I did this video a long time ago:

Lasers where a 1.2W 445nm & a 500mW 405nm. At 30 feet.

A 445nm will burn better up close at the powers you listed.

However if they where both exactly the same power 405nm will burn way better then a 445nm.

Too bad the 445nm isn't a single mode...
