400mW spartan b4 and after pot mod

So this is the beam corrected spartan right? Any specs on the corrective optics?

yes its the beam corrected spartan , i accidently knocked the colminating lens off and behind the ONLY lens the next thing you see is the diode. so on my limited knowledge this has as much beam correction and or optics as a 5 dollar red pointer.

So it's not corrected at all. They just put the beam through an aperture. Likely your diode is pushing 1.4Watts now, and 60% is being absorbed by the aperture "blades". Cut out the aperture if you want to see real power.

It looks to me like they are running a couple of their "regular" drivers in parallel.
The drivers appear to be identical.
They also look similar to the drivers used in their high power greens.
They're not identical. Look at the writing on the boards :p

how do i do that :)

heres a pic of light coming out of the diode (no lens)

how?

Doesn't look to be an aperture. Looks to be quite a long focal length lens though so this could well be losing some power. I'm not too sure what you can do to improve things. What's the outside diameter of the lens screw?

^ Ahh, it looked a little bigger but I was going to suggest maybe trying an Aixiz 3 element glass assembly. However, I think they are 9mm. If you have one knocking about, (or at least a lens nut of the same type), you could see if it fits? If you do fit an acrylic one for sizing, don't be tempted to switch it one! It'll likely melt the lens and contaminate the diode window.

So, if i understand correctly, they are using a lense with a long focal length so that the
lense can be placed farther away from the LD, that way edges of the emitted light will
hit the inside of the heatsink/collimator and the entire lense will be hit by the
laser light. Resulting in a round beam and dot at the expense of loosing all that
power to the inside of the heatsink/collimator.

that makes some sense. so if i changed the first lens to a short focal point and screwed the lens screw closer to the diode what its 4;30am
So whats the difference betweeen the 400's and the 1watt versions plz?
and thanks
