I really hate to tell you this.... (if you are serious)...
But you don't seem to have a clue as to the meaning
of Wavelength or Current...
The two are NOT related in the least...
I would suggest an intensive read session on the Forum...

And all the dilda drivers Ive got are the same (2) even though one of the dildas was the newer one (Different focus head thread diameter).



And its just your standard dilda host

The Red 650Mw Dilda is set up for <200mW to drive the 650nm
LD it comes with... The usal output with 2pc 3.0 Volt batteties
is anound 160mW...

I really hate to say this but i find that really ironic

All i need to know is 6vDC passing through a dilda driver that 'regulates' at 0.32A going to have sufficient voltage to drive the diode safely and efficiently

@ Jex - If it's a linear driver then usually it'll be a constant current driver which means that the current is maintained no matter what the required output voltage is, i.e. 320mA at 1.8V; 320mA at 2.5V; etc, until the input voltage is exceeded, (minus the dropout of the driver). This is certainly true of the DDL and RKCSTR drivers although I do think some commercial drivers use a chip in, 'pseudo constant current', mode. Others really know more than I on the details. In fact, this very question may be a good one to ask in the new, 'Driver', section - "Will a Dilda driver outputting 320mA to drive a red LD still drive an 808nm, 300mW diode at 320mA?" - I would ask it myself but as you have a need for the info then go for it. I'm guessing you will still be asked for photos though to comfirm the driver! ;)

Groove 2 driver of drlava is good for infrared LD!
But because of positive case, there is insulation problem of host.
So I think AMC 7135 is better.

I got one of these today, and I don't think it works. I soldered it to a module board that used to support a 25mw 780nm laser, but has a pot on it, and in addition, I added an led in paralell, to check the circuit. I'm using a gen 1 night vision scope to check it, and it doesnt seem to do anything. I was wondering if anyone had an idea of what the spectral sensitivity of night vision is? I researched IR laser sights (this is how I came crashing into this unexpected new offshoot hobby, I wanted one, and whomever sets the pricetags on those is on drugs!, and just like that, bang, I'm building lasers, now) the ones that say, say they like the 830nm band, and I didn't like the 780nm band, becasue there was too much bleedover into the visable spectrum (I could see it), I should think 808nm would therefore be a bracketed range. However, this idea was shot down by the 25mw 780nm module that sacrificed it's pcb, anyway, since 25mw hurt my poor nightscope, 5mw would be more than sufficient, I think, but I had big dreams of burning bugs, for this diode, I'm disappointed.

I think the only issue you may have is, as mentioned above, the case +ve/-ve thing. Most red diodes are case negative but IRs are often case positive. This could cause a problem. A little resoldering on the driver should rectify this without a problem but it is probably the biggest consideration. I'll put my neck out and say your dilda driver should be fine with those diodes. There is always the thing that I can't see, or haven't thought about though so risky whatever you do. I tell you what, I have a few of these unknown wavelength IRs of similar power to yours and almost certainly the same pin configuration. How about I send you one so you can find out? If you're planning on pumping a crystal set with one, you may even be able to tell me if they are 808nm too. (Anyone else able to help me determine the wavelength of these is welcome to drop me a line too.)


@ GVLLD M981, Hi and welcome to LPF! Have a good read of the forum rules and stickies. These will help as to where to find stuff, safety and maybe a tutorial or two. LPF like to help those that help themselves too so a search for info first is always welcomed with a useful post when a question has to be asked.

As far as I'm aware, night vision usually hangs around in the 980nm region. The best way to see if your LD is emiting is to simply use your camera phone as CCD cameras without IR filters are sensitive to the NIR/IR spectrum. Try it with your TV remote. To try to power a 300mW LD with a 25mW driver is likely a hiding to nothing though. You may not even be reaching lasing threshold with that driver so if anything, you may just see a dim light that is not coherent and resembles an LED. When it's lasing you'll know but not by just using your eyes! You'll likely be able to see a dim, deep red when lasing but don't be tempted to look at it directly. Use your phone and you'll see how bright it really is. Let us know how you go. Have a good read and if you have any questions after that then open a new thread. This diode seems like a good deal. I'll probably buy one or two. Does anyone know whether it will be singlemode or multimode?
 
^ I would guess that it is single mode considering that it is only 300mW.

Gonna buy one now, would really like to get started in the high powered IR field.
 
I got mine today, 10 day shipping isn't bad from China. The laser diode has a can but is windowless. Let's hope they were supposed to come like that. :D
 
I just bought two. One I'll keep to add to my wavelength collection, and the other is going in a 20mW 532 crystal array I have.

So what is the decided current? 350mA, 400mA? Whatcha think Styro?

I have mine at 375mA, and it doesn't seem that powerful. My 200mW reds can do a lot more than this, I bet I need to crank up he current.
 
Remember that the higher wavelength means it isn't as easily absorbed by stuff, so it may not appear that strong burning-wise.
 
Yeah it's hard to tell without a LPM, maybe somebody else can post some actual power readings.
