You only have one pair of eyes. If you want to take a chance wrecking them because you chose to be cheap or stupid, relying on anecdotal statistics to rationalize not taking precautions yourself, that's going to be your choice. We've done our best here to convince you that laser eye safety is important for any laser you use above eyesafe levels. Maybe you'll be that "one guy" in Lithuania who does suffer permanent eye damage to serve as the warning to all others.

How about pointing to the carpet with a +2meters range, still need to use glasses or it's safe?

I didn't said that i want to burn carpet just been asking if i'm pointing at carpet just to check if laser work ,do I need goggles?
 
I'm fairly new here, but I must say that you need to LISTEN to these guys when they say buy the glasses. I own several guns and still know that even though a BB may not kill you, it can still set up an infection and cause health issues, and this is just a BB not a bullet. Which is why the first rule of gun ownership is never point a gun at anything you do not intend to destroy. The same can be said for a laser. Remember, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

EVERYTHNG WILL reflect light; carpet, walls, wood, trees, matches, clothing, shiny surfaces, mirrors. only time you dont need glasses is when you are outside pointing it up into the endless space!

im afraid if you keep asking these questions you might be banned for being a troll.

EDIT: i must say i am glad you are over in Lithuania because if you were state side, you would screw ever laser enthusiast over by doing something stupid. this is the exact reason why most companies wont sell lasers to people under 18, they dont understand the dangers or anything about lasers even when 100 people are yelling the correct answer at them!!! OPEN YOU EARS AND LISTEN PLEASE OR YOU WILL GO BLIND, not could but you WILL!!!

The laser light is so intense that even the 5% or whatever is reflected back could cause damage to your eyes. It may not be the imediate "oh im blind" now but it could be a slow degradation of vision. So if you intend to make this a hobby you need to protect your eyes from the hours upon hkurs of exposure you can encounter.

Like was mentioned before. Just because you see soneone doing it doenst mean its the right thing. Or even safe for that matter.
 
I'm fairly new here and don't post a lot but after receiving my first 5mw(listed)but turned out to be a 50mw 532nm the first order of business was GOGGLES.Simple truth read,read then read the stickies

Heard of russian roulette? Well thats all I can relate it to. Just because you dont wear them once twice thrre times and dont damage you eye soesnt mean you wont catch a bullet sooner or later.

Owning a powerful laser is a serious responsibility. Operating it around people or "friends" who are not wearing protection is foolish on your behalf. Why would you take that risk with anybody?

Do some more reading about laser safety, and get some goggles! They're not toys. Be safe.
 
Can we please let this thread die? We have given this guy enough information and it is now in his hands to use it or go blind.....its simple
