2+ watt 445nm for $210

Only few people realize, how much technology was taken from Germany after the war. B2 bomber for example. German tanks were always amazing. Rifles as well.

I would love to buy a German mill, but I have to buy a German mill fabricated in China or from east. Because of the price...

When its about lasers, the swiss and USA make great stuff as well.We dont have that much tools from US over here, so I cant say much bout quality.

Though Operation Paperclip wasn't as successful as it could've been. The Russians got a lot of good Germans too!

Many US tools are actually very well made, but you don't find them very often because the cost of labor and construction is more in the US, which increases the prices. You'll probably see some of the established US or European brands in large shops that can afford the domestic tools and brands. As for seeing US brands in Europe, they may not be so widespread for other reasons as well, for example the Imperial units are still used a lot in the US, especially for milling units, etc. where the home-grown industry set the standards. It might also just be cheaper to get them from local European sources, especially with the high import taxes.

I wouldn't dog Chinese products too much; most people will not notice any real quality problems with tools and parts from China. It used to be that Chinese-made parts were always just cheaper-built versions of Western tools and parts that companies outsourced. When they're outsourced the quality standards are monitored from afar, so corners get cut. However, many home-grown Chinese companies do produce some good quality products. The same trend occurs with outsourced vs. domestic engineers in countries like India, where there are many competent groups and companies, not just outsourced shops controlled out of Silicon Valley.

Yes, the U.S. still has a slight edge in semiconductor manufacturing. And on another note; if not for one "famous" German(Vxx Bxxxx), who I think everyone knows, it would have been difficult for the Moon landing to have occurred. ;-)

I have bought many laser-items from China. Fact is, they are cheap and the quality is not always that bad. In fact, every HV-driven CO2 laser-tube comes from China. Every laser-diode...at least I believe that.

The lenses I use for all 445nm diodes...from China. Work great. German lenses for example would cost as much as 5 or 6 chinese lenses.

Well now being into Astronomy, most Telescopes are now made in China, and now the Chinese make telescopes that work well and mirrors and lenses the Chinese have worked out how to make good lenses and mirrors. I have a Skywatcher 8" Newtonian reflector and these accually have pretty good optics and on par with anything made in the USA. Seems most products now are being produced in China, or if not it's increasing all the time.

Are not most lasers and parts for lasers now made, or come from China? With Chinese Products, you really do get what you pay for, but cheap you get cheap, pay more and get a good product.

Exactly. You get what you pay for...very famous saying over here in Germany. Many faked brands over here...you can tell which is original and which is fake.
When you buy a laser from China for 15$ you dont expect a real good divergence at all. I am a fan of the chinese laser-industry.

U.S. and Europe has the innovation, China has the cheap labor. I don't think the Chinese have invented anything since pasta and fireworks.

That was kinda unfair. Chinese culture has way more to offer than any other on this planet I guess. And I am damn sure they invented more than fireworks and noodles.

Without chinese cheap labor way less people would be able to have lasers as hobby...

Japan and South Korea also have lots of innovative corporations thriving. BUT that doesn't mean you can't get quality things from China! Where do you think CNI is at?

It was just a joke. Of course they have a lot to offer which is why they are one of our top trading partners.

Alright.
Just had to think about it...no chinese laser-tubes...no diodes. You would have to buy brands all the way. Dude that would cost a hell lot of money xD

Lol

From 445nm laser set-ups to , to panther tanks, to German engineering, to the offerings of Chinese culture we cover it all on LPF.

Anyway on a more serious note...
Does anyone know where I can find a beamsplitter and 2 diode holding box? I mean like a metal box that holds a beamsplitter inside it and has a place where one could put two diodes on the outside. Hopefully it would also have a place to screw in a colminating lens.
If not is there anyway someone on this might know of someone or be able to make one for me? I would be willing to pay good money for it.

Dude...THAT would be beyond awesome xD

Not that easy...sad but true. Get a aluminum-plate...2 diode-housings/holders/mounts...2alu L-profiles, alu-sheets, some screws and springs, 2 mirrors for 445nm...
You will have to align those two mirrors, to make it work of course. A milled holder for everything would be so cool, but never heard of anything like it.

Lol

If you need someone to make one for you, check out Birdwell Machine: cnc precision machining, tool makers, the owner is a friend of mine, good guys who do good work. Drop them a line and they'll give you a quote. If you can make an accurate drawing, they can make it.

Over here in Germany you would pay alot of money for a unique piece made on a CNC!

Go for it and try to fabricate it yourself! More DIY...thats what we need ^^
