1W 445nm lasergun w/ video

I'd bet someone could kit-bash a prototype together with Lego Mindstorms/NXT. Just mount an existing laser with accessible focus ring to the gearing and motor and figure out your parameters.

The rangefinder for robotics work might be of limited range, but it would suffice for proof-of-concept.

The beam is way to bad to be focussed properly.

I will try something with a pair of prisms on a bigger version someday.

Anyone already tried prisms for beamshaping?

Found the frozen sausage in the freeze...
Was that a Bratwürst* you sacrificed in the name of LPF science??? You are truly a dedicated individual. That, or a pyro-junkie like many a LPFer, lol ;)

J/K - awesome, awesome build, congratulations

*Could have been worse, could have been a Weisswürst!!! Just as long as you don't point that thing at any Weissbier, 'cause that might just get you...
:banned:
:crackup::beer:

Thanks.

The Bratwurst was a left-over. Must have been in there for at least a year. Ernährungsumstellung caused massive Entsorgung of older food, forsaken in the depths of my fridge xD

Pyromaniac would fit me...lasers which just emits bunt light are kinda lame imo. Need to create some fire and smoke with it...even better if its a handheld version of a burning laser.

Looks dangerous.

The only issue I find burning stuff at close range is the residue that makes its way on to your collimating lens...

Why do so many "modders" think they are awesome for sticking a laser diode they didn't make into something "cool"? No offense everyone, and certainly not to AnselmoFanZero but most hobbies involve more building the final product as a whole, and the final product being more an example of your skills and less to do with the skills per say of the laser diode manufacturer. I mean I could go hot glue a 445nm diode to a lamborghini and call it a "laz-borghini" or something and it would not make me any more deserving of the props for the laser then building one into a flashlight makes me a laser technician. Lets face it cool gun or not if you could not simply purchase the diode it would be awfully underwhelming. I think this applies to the laser modding hobby more so then many other. Its acceptable that restoring or building your own car from scratch is hard work and impressive. And though its not likely you could build you own engine from scratch, an engine without a car its pretty useless. Unlike a laser without a gun, flashlight, or other housing will still function in all its laser glory without this, assuming the driver & batteries are present. Id just be more enthused by this and the laser modding hobby in general if building the whole damn thing was a given. Just a thought Please don't hate me :o

No offense taken, but now youve come up with the car-example:

EVERY person on earth could buy a pacer or a Ford Taunus to get from a to b. But some dudes need a damn Ferrari. Why? Because look is important sometimes.

I thought a laser which is so dangerous needs an impressive housing. Thats why. It can burn your skin and start fires.

BUT: It is still compact. If it would be 2times bigger with the same power, it would be ridiculous.

You just gave me an idea...

Last night I build one of my <100mW 532's in to a die case box with batteries.

I know a road not far from me that is bush land, no cars, people or properties for miles. I might take a drive tonight with the unit on my dash facing forward.

<prepares for flack, puts on asbestos suit and places the time machine on standby>

He is making a lascar
More entertaining than nascar in my book :shhh:
I'm going to duct tape one to my sportbike tonight and see if I can increase c (the speed of light) to 1079253163.8km/h (c+315km/h) and see what happens.
If the world ends in a catastrophic explosion of epic awesomeness.....sorry, my bad

You will have problems competing with simple LEDs on space station.

Kinda weird example, but I (GUESS) I know what you mean.

OT: You picked the most impressive part of the Airborne Laser for your avatar: The flexible mirror \m/

Don't look directly into the aperture ! Megawatt class laser can permanently damage your vision !
