how you got those lasers into australia.

It's all a dark art, really. Harder than smuggling drugs, perhaps.

Silly, silly customs.:gun:

If you want to get in on the details, PM me. I'd be glad to help out a fellow Aussie.

I love HeNe tubes!!! The beam profile is epic and the plasma exposure on a bare tube has an amazing glow, I use a few bare tubes on my work desk as low light lamps for when I want to view a beam with the lights off but still need to see what I am doing...

The only real medical use that I know of for these small red(632.8nm) tubes is to use them as an aiming device for CO2 lasers...

Also these tubes have a perfect gaussian TEM00 dot!!!

Everyone should get a HeNe... just to see the things in action. I think Dave had some good tubes he was selling... I've got a bunch of JDSU 1107 heads I may offer up for stupid cheap, thing is, they're sealed cylinders and you don't get to see the plasma.

(They're pressure-fit, but not sure if they have RTV silicone in them; if so, no real chance of freeing them.)

I think this thread is getting more attention because of the word 'cancer' in the title though -- I know I clicked on it because I thought it was something about getting cancer from 1mW class II lasers :)

There is a nice seller on ebay that I bought some tubes from, he is selling them for $10 each +5 to ship and you can get a compatable power supply for around the same price if you look at the right time. I will link some auctions here if you are interested...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170504326853#ht_3292wt_911

power supply that will run ^^^ above tube:http://cgi.ebay.com/Laser-Drive-las...ultDomain_0&hash=item2307c2dac8#ht_810wt_1137

Beware though that this PSU requires at least a 21v DC input to run the tube, but you can buy power supplies that hook up to the AC line voltage in your house.
Be sure too read up on these lasers before buying one, they will shock the crap out of you if your not carefull!
