17mm buck-boost driver (TPS63020 and LT6106)

You put some paste flux underneath to hold them in place and align them. Are you sure you have watched that video you posted. :D It's also mention there. And my station has an air flow control so I don't set it to blow like a leaf blower :D:D

Yeah, I was using a flux paste that wasn't very tacky I guess. Even the flux I have (red stuff from flaminpyro) wasn't holding it down like glue. I have two others he sent me that I guess I should try.

And yes, I watched the video! :P I made this post before I watched it though. I think.

Just kidding there I know you did :D Remember that when the paste flux is heated it becomes more liquidy and it will move the IC around if it's too much.

Don't put too much a teardrop or so is enough for that TPS.

I have stumbled upon one very tacky paste flux in the past from China. It was like honey and even when heated it remained relatively tacky but... I have never found it again. :D

I would suggest getting some experience with some damaged / broken PC motherboards or PCI cards or mobile phones boards or some other damaged equipment with BGA chips or other smaller similar IC and get some experience in removing and placing them on the board until you feel comfortable with it before damaging expensive ICs like the 63020..

In my line of work I have to deal with bigger ICs than the TPS like mobile phone processors and flash ICs and power amplifiers with lots of tiny dots underneath the ICs (smaller than the TPS pads)

like this
thumb.php

and from time to time I still have problems with the bigger ones with hundreds of connections..

That would be a crazzy chip to solder! Looks more like it pops into a socket!

This board will definately give me a challenge!

To help the soldering, when i designed the board, i have slightly elongated the landing pattern for the chip with respect to that proposed by TI.

Hey Anthot, are you trying to mount the board or Kizdawg is the first?
Any new from foulmist or tsteele93?

I'm getting a couple boards from anthot so he will be first I am sure.. :) I'm waiting for the heatsink GB to arrive and then he will send me a couple boards with that order so I am not to sure how long that will be.

I did order parts though should be here tomorrow I think. I split it up between newark and digi. Newark was alot cheaper on some things.

Here is the newark order.. I hope I didnt miss anything I'm prety sure I fixed the things you mentioned other than that .1% tolerence resistor because that was all I could find it's expensive but Eh!

Dang think I forgot the inductor I tried to get samples but they told me I wasnt a legitimate business and unless I could prove otherwiese they would not send me any.. crp!

I'm sure that for the inductor, Anthot and tsteele93 could help you...

Kizdawg ill include 2 inductors :) I got the exact ones Laserluke recommended, would you like me to reflow them on for you? :)

Oh and Kizdawg will be first to mount them, I haven't gotten components yet :(

I'm buried right now. I'll have to let AnthT spearhead things for the moment. I'll be doing a big order from Newark and digikey soon and will get parts and help spread them around once I do. Sorry. :(

No problem... nice to hear from you :)

Tom are you seting up Pyro now for the 4th! hehe Thanks Anthot.

Did I forget anything else? or did anything look wrong? Glad luke caught the resistor I was going to order that was too short on V.

I dont have a scope so I may have to buy one and be taught how to use it LMFAOROTF! Who will give me lessons for PP???

lol That sounded really bad!

So would you like me to attach the inductor :) I can easily add it to make your life a bit easier ;)

Are they standard inductors? That's is usually my indicator when I'm reflowing. so I can put them on. unless there crazzy like the last pics and if you put them on it would be apreciated...

They are just regular inductors ;)

It's easier if I put them on actually :p less little anti-static bags in the package :p
