1500nm how to detect?

I'm playing with a range finder with a 1500nm laser diode. ANy material that will "glow" with this wavelengh? I'm trying to align the optics but this wavelengh is way IR and invisible. Detector cards, goggles, special paper that will help?

A thermometer will detect it, I guess....

Uhm, it depend from the thermometer ..... professional labby ones have a reading range that go between 750/800nm to 20.000nm, but they requires special sensors and special materials for the sensor window ..... usual "commercial" IR (AKA non-contact) thermometers have "cheap" sensors that only work in a range from 7.500/8.000 nm to 18.000/20.000 nm, depending from the material used for the window.

Anyway, also pro ones are not image devices (except for FLIR cams), they are only thermal sensors ..... i mean, they can detect it, but not give you an image (if the purpose is focusing)

And if temperature is low enough, use thermal paper, like the kind from fax machines,
cash registers and so on. It turns black from heat.

^ edit: the problem there is that it is initially white, and will reflect the light. Even the black parts of the paper still reflect my 808nm pen.

A glow-in-the-dark sheet lit by a blacklight will serve as a simple real-time detector. How it works: the IR light causes the stored energy in the sheet (given to it by the black light) to be emitted.

FLIR doesn't go that high.

I have some Indium salt based photodiode IR detector modules, PM me in about a week when I'm off the road, and I can sell you a 1-5 micron detector cheap. Odds are 1.6 u will not show up on quenched ZnS. Usually a different upconversion phosphor is used.

This post is wayyyy past the date the thread was started, but I thought it a good place to ask. I am also interested in range finding at 1500nm. Does anyone know where I can find a 1500nm pulse diode that can put out high power for a few microseconds? Looking for something used, or surplus, unless there are reasonably priced units available new.
