Hi just got done building this sucker today and thought i'd share it with everyone. This is a random host I thought looked cool so I said to myself "ima make me a laser outta this"

So here it is, custom machined heatsink, microboost, a 405-g2 lens outputting over 700mW. The driver is heatsinked and set to 500ma just to be safe.

additional details are its a 12x bdr-so6j diode, it runs from 1 18500 battery, and to me this thing looks kinda like a retro-lightsaber thing.

also, anybody know how to get an Olympus camera to pick up the purple of blu-ray. It always shows up blue. the only way to get the purple to show is if I have a 445 blue laser also ON next to it, then the camera distinguishes between the two colors.

Nice build :gj: did I miss something you said the driver was heatsinked and I couldn't see that
It looks like your laser hand writing is just as good as mine

yea sorry i taped everything up just to prevent shorts, shoulda showed the driver with the peice of heatsink expoxied to the 6 pin chip.

yea thanks about the handwriting... my hands arent steady at all...its all those damn energy drinks!!

Bro, your camera, you'd just need to set it to manual White balance, and select a WB of say 5000K. Experiment with it, since difference cams have different saturation/contrast settings which determines the final output.

And anyway, some sensors are limited in how they detect and translates these short wavelengths. Nothing can be done.

Awesome build! Ill make a 12x eventually, but 3 builds are coming before that, PHR, and 250mW red (Probably going to use a LPC) One thing, which is well worth doing. Many people dont, it helps me get 1:20 minutes out of my 1.2W in an aurora host vs 45 seconds. Just stick thermal paste between the aixiz and heatsink (common sense) but put a lot around the heatsink, and a little in where the heatsink sits in the host, slip the heatsink in, wiggle it around a bit. So, heat will go from the heatsink to the host, it makes a BIGGGG difference surprisingly.

yea, i actually did the same thing in the same host. that only works in that host though, since the case pin isnt used for the negative connection. For hosts that needs the case pin, thermal paste will electrically isolate the diode, hence you lose your only negative connection.

but the aurora c6 has a pill so yea. I use artic silver 5 (the silver colored one) for my 445 build and its pretty effective. The only thing i dont like is that it makes everything so messy when you take apart the laser, and you risk getting the stuff on your lens or diode. I've actually contemplating putting another 12X in that host but am reluctant to do so because of the mess.

You got a very nice laser there as for the color that is a very good question since I tried to mess arround with your pictures and photoshop and I don't seem to be able to turn the blue into purple without affecting the entire picture...

Norbyx, its not your fault

No bad rep this time but please be mindful of the last post date, especially when the comment isn't really that relevant

it's easy to do, i've tried to buy stuff 2 years old:banghead:

that i can see, ive almost posted in a BST thread that was sold over a year ago. no -rep was given but more of a stay aware of thread dates for everyone
