Convert a red HeNe to yellow

I figured I would bump this thread, DJZ spent a bunch of time at SELEM 2018 playing musical mirrors with my SP-127 and was able to get orange out of the tube. The SP-127 is now his and hopefully he will update this thread with his new findings :)

    What happend?

Also keep in mind some of the huge online user statistics come from when say Styropyro's youtube videos go viral - I remember a huge surge back when Jayrob made his zippo laser lighter. That was a big buzz for a while.

    What happend?

Traffic to LPF is a fairly useless metric though, over 90% of traffic comes from unregistered users. Currently Active Users: 7269 (135 members and 7134 guests) We would probably need access to the LPF database to be able to get internal activity stats.

    What happend?

Not sure I get your point? If I search "burning laser" on google, I don't get any LPF links on the first or second page. I actually get a hit on CandlePowerForums before anything besides direct places to buy one. Also in the trend you linked, we're currently down to about 30-40% of the peak...

    What happend?

Yeah that's the point though, people actively seeking out a laser pointer forum has dropped pretty far from the peak back in 2010-2011 back when this place was really hopping. Most members don't stick around for more than a few years before moving on. Lots of newbie activity helps keep the...

DIY Thermal LPM for under $50

I was going for low BOM count but I am currently doing some testing and plan on updating some component values to make some adjustments less fiddly

DIY Thermal LPM for under $50

Well yes if you mean by now you mean 2015 when I originally posted the v2 schematic (post #541) I do not see any shorts on the board, maybe you are seeing the 9V1- and 9V2+ being connected? This is intentional. Anyway I think after taking a look at this project with fresh eyes it could really...

Hi guys, I have re-hosted the v2 schematic image on the original post.

    Open Source Argon Laser Controllers

To do list: Fix pinout for the mode switches (push-push style latching pushbuttons) Add mounting holes for large size potentiometers or find some smaller ones that have built-in knobs

    Open Source Argon Laser Controllers

Hey everyone, I'm putting together an open-source argon laser control board. The goal is to provide one board that supports multiple configurations; to support both a simple "get it running now" and a fancier digital interface depending on what parts you populate on the board. I have a super...

    FS- LPM, vintage, old skool...

Yes the LPM shown in your review is an original Radiant Alpha 2W LPM.

TECs used as LPM sensors failures...

As someone who has looked into this issue before, higher temperature TECs are not very common and if you can find them the prices are not good. Usually the ones designed for power generation use higher temperature solder. The problem comes from the fairly high thermal resistance of an...

Some help with fixing my power meter

It takes a pretty serious impact to cleave a TEC in half like that - a drop sounds likely. You can replace the TEC with pretty much any similarly sized ones and paint it black. The calibration will likely not be the same, not sure if those have a user accessible calibration menu or not. High...

DIY Thermal LPM for under $50

There are a few options, you could use two wall warts (or a PSU with +/- voltage outputs) The other option is to use an isolated switching converter, but these tend to be noisy and require extra filtering components. There are also charge pump type chips that will also do this. You can use the...

DIY Thermal LPM for under $50

Yup that's correct. The new circuit requires two 9v batteries. They are used to provide a larger voltage span for the LM358. The old design had the output of the amp running right at the negative rail which although usually works can cause some voltage offset or an inability to fully zero the...

DIY Thermal LPM for under $50

Wtf, I never had any surcharge from them when I ordered before, but that was a few years ago. I guess they go out the window then for a TEC source. Not the case here, if you have a laser beam with a power of 1 watt, if you pick off half of the beam you only have 500mW. Were that not the case...
