Laser for frying pest anemones in a reef aquarium

Yeah, it works like an absolute charm. I used my 2W M140 to blast the Aptasias(I have a 600 litre tank so I have loads of them). But over excitement resulted in a mishap. My crocodile clips shorted and blew my P3 flexmod and 445!! But yes, you have to be careful. My Purple Tang was so curious...

    Anamorphics and waveplate help?

Most definitely. FYI, I also did a quick setup with the 500mw 635, but results didn't look to good. Huge loss in power. Seems like it may be a polarizing issue, but I don't have a waveplate coated for red. For now I'm happy to have tamed a 445 with G2 lens.

    Anamorphics and waveplate help?

The optics arrived today and I did a quick setup and test. All I can say this has totally blown me away to point that I would say every 445 should be sold with a pair anamorphics! The beam is tight and is much brighter over a longer distance. In fact it is tighter than my old 800mw DPSS lab...

    Anamorphics and waveplate help?

Please excuse my ignorance, but wouldn't expanding the fast axis result in the width being the same after x meters. ie if it was 3 inches after 10 meters, now it would be 10 inches and also fatter ? Hope it makes sense...

    Anamorphics and waveplate help?

Thanks Bionic-Badger. +1 to you. You've put me on the right path. I've now done much on these prisms and it's interesting that the guys seem to EXPAND to slow axis rather the SHRINK the fast axis. I was all for shrinking the fast axis. Why would you want a big dim square rather than a tight...

    Anamorphics and waveplate help?

So I can use one prism to narrow the fast axis with the only complication being that the incident beam will be at a different angle when it exists the prism?

    Anamorphics and waveplate help?

Thanks for the replies. So I'm going to have to buy another set of prisms to correct the each beam before they enter the PBS? Regarding your question about the anamorphics being polarized, herewith is the link and description of the prisms: Anamorphic Prism Pair blue and red

    Anamorphics and waveplate help?

Hey all, It's been awhile since I did some laser building so I just ordered two sets anamorphics prisms (coated 445 and 650nm) and a waveplate. I intend to combine two M140s with a PBS and then try fix the divergence. (the other prisms are for the 635s which I'll play with at some other stage)...

    DTR M140 very impressive 2.5W

I bought a M140 with G2 lens from DTR a couple of months back and only tested it this past weekend. I set the Flexmod to exactly 1.99A and my Laserbee LPM quickly flat lined @ 2.5W ! I guess it would have reached at least 2.6W+. Tempted to buy another and combined them with my PSB to achieve...

    638nm 80mW (single-mode) Pen + Beam & star photos

@ RA_PIERCE. You so lucky to have a view of the Andromeda galaxy! Us southern hemisphere guys don't get it overhead. Only (rarely) very low on the horizon. Would love to point my 6" Celestron at it... and great laser. :)

    45W Argon $650

I really hope someone on these forums buys this guy: Spectra Physics 171 Argon/Krypton 45 watt Laser Head and 270 Exciter | eBay I would love to see it in action. I'd buy it in a heartbeat if I lived in the US. All those photons would be so satisfying :)

    1Watt 532nm Ultra Compact Laser Cube - 18mm(L) x22mm(W) x 11mm(T)

I contacted the guy and asked if I can pumped 10W 808nm fibre into the crystal. He said they have no data available and are not sure if the crystal can handle it. I'm keen to try but it'll be a waste of $120 if I fry the crystal. Still tempted though..:) This one...

    Huge power drop on DHOM

The DHMO, like many other China lasers, has only a single TEC. Both to cool the LD and to warm the KTP ? All the optics are epoxied! So I am not even able to access, check for moisture or clean them. Sorry, I forgot to take pictures when I had it in pieces. I'll wait next month for Spring when...

    Cooling a 2W

I've left a post sometime in the past. I drilled a 6mm hole in a heaksink and used arctic silver on a 445 laser. It's been 2 years perhaps (when did the 445s first arrive?) and that crude looking laser is still working 100 percent today. Granted, the 445s are tough laser

    Huge power drop on DHOM

Well, today was rather cold in Johannesburg so I though, what better than too try play with the pots of the power supply. Knowing that I could possibly pop the laser, I went ahead anyway. I've attach 3 LPM images The first shows the initial output. Second shows the output while adjusting the 6...
