Laser + Roomba vs. Balloons

Greetings!

I present to you my latest experiment - Roomba robot attached with 4 lasers to create an automatic balloon terminator.

Lasers attached:
Green CNI PGL-C >500mW
Blue WL Arctic 1W
Two Violet IgorT lasers about 200mW each (they were not focused, added for just for good looks).

I have also attached a small camera so I can film the experience from Roomba's point of view.

that was cool... but I thought the balloons will pop more easily ... what are the lasers' specs :beer: +1

Green CNI >500mW (measured between 550 to 600).
Blue Arctic < 1W (measured 730mW)

The two violet lasers are unfocused.

I think black balloons would pop much better, but even those I'm not sure would pop if the beam passes them fast (when the robot turns).

These lasers needs a steady fracture of a second to burn a tiny hole.
I guess stronger lasers that aren't handheld can cut through balloons like knives.

I've ordered 500 black balloons from eBay, I intend to do some tests on those with the two big lasers.

I made the video below long ago, where the balloons and the laser are in a fixed position, and they pop instantly (skip to 1:08):

 
aaaah cool I remember that video! didn't realize it was yours :beer: that robot is on autopilot, right? because it bumped right in the wall on the first turn - that was fun :D like a kamikadze :D

The robot is automatic, no remote control, although you have these small boxes called "virtual walls" if you want to block it.

It is supposed to detect walls and not bump into them that strongly, I suspect the laser messed up the robot light sensors in some way.
 
That was pretty awesome and in makes me want to mount a laser on one of my RC cars.
 
Pretty cool. Now all you have to do is train your roomba to actually pick up all those balloons. :D

I really wanted to, but Roomba can't clean balloons, they get stuck in its brushes, which is why I removed them before doing this.

this was funny, would've been even better if you used smoke though and put an action figure ontop

what is duty cycle on those lasers? or isn't there one?
 
Hey, thinks everyone for your feedback and your ideas.

Magmabeam, there is no duty cycle on the Arctic laser (it measures a steady 730mW for ten minutes).
The CNI laser should be turned off after a few minutes (I noticed it heats and its power drops) and cool down for about 10 minutes.
