i was wondering if someone could tell me the difference between 405nm and 532nm concerning burning. i noticed that violet lasers can be MUCH cheaper than green ones, so how big is the difference? :D
i'd be glad to hear its a small difference :P

from my experience, my 100mw 405 can burn better than my 120mw 532. However, I cannot confirm the power as of now, these readings were from the sellers and could have changed.

^^^ i find that correct if you are taking into account a 405 usually has an adjustable focus. if not then i would say the green.

Actually comparing same power 405nm and 532nm I find that 405nm burns much better.

For judging the comparison I have a 405nm 150mW pen from o-like and a 150mW green. Green isn't focusable by default... but that didn't stop me from trying it with a an different lens;)

Per mW 405nm beats green for burning... not even a comparison for visibility though...

@chipdouglas - did you mix up visibility vs burning?

405 is better at burning because of the shorter wavelength

This. My 87mw 405 burned better than my 140mw 532. I need to replace the blown diode in the 405. I really liked that laser. :(

its better in most circumstances because most materials absorb the 405 pretty well.
the shorter wave length isn't much of an advantage per se. because we use crappy optics.

if op is looking for a burner and a beam the go for 445. woot woot

Plus with 405 you can burn white stuff. You've have to really increase the power to do that with other wavelengths!
