Military grade laser?

First off, just want to say hello! I'm new here on the forums and came across you guys while doing research for a build of mine. I'm mid-build on special-purpose AR and am looking for a suitable laser to use with it. Frustratingly enough all of the adjustable laser-sights for guns are <5mw, which I have plenty of, and for this build I'm looking for something that's going to be brighter for outdoor/daylight use etc.

The problem I'm running in to is there seems to be a TON of different manufactures, conflicting reviews, and wildly ranging price points, and most of the ones I've seen recommended on here in the starter guides simply aren't designed for prolonged military use.

Basically what I'm looking for:
-Green, highly visible laser
-Anodized type III/billet aluminum casing, or best available
-30-50mW of power (what would you all recommend for best visibility without risking eye damage from viewing the dot @ > 50 yards?)
-waterproof to at least 20 meters, or best available
-shock-mounted electronics to withstand considerable recoil (will be on a .50 BMG)
(and of course top-notch safety goggles)

At first glance, this seems to satisfy this project's needs:
Cobalt 2000 / SF
while being overkill, and blue. However, some research here quickly showed that this was probably a bad idea.

tl:dr - I need a 30-50mW military-grade mountable green laser w/pressure trigger, budget is around $1k. Any suggestions?

Thanks guys for any help! I'm exceptionally knowledgeable when it comes to weapons, but when it comes to lasers I figured I'd consult some experts.

It's nearly impossible to DIY a green gun sight, mainly because green lasers are for now DPSS, not direct diode. DPSS lasers need critical alignment and can't really stand up to recoil to well, especially not from as large a round as a .50 BMG. Legal reasons exist for why there is a 5mW limit for a gun sight, mainly that for a portable (non lab laser) to be legal for use in public, it has to have a shutter, emission delay, emission indicator (LED), ignition key, and an interlock plug that can be pulled out in an emergency to kill power to the laser instantly. You could try to get your hands on a 20mW 635nm diode and use that, it would be very bright compared to the average 5mW red gun sight. Welcome to LPF.

Except guns aren't generally used in public ;)

Also, some of the "<5mW" green sights are actually 30mW. You shouldn't need much more than that anyway.

I got that, when I couldn't find him on the "companies" page I used the search function and came across that in a thread. I'm looking for something equivalent, I have no idea if his claims were legitimate or not, but I do need something that is mountable like his lasers are. I was hoping someone on here would have an alternative. I have no interest in getting in the middle of the laser-communities civil war.

Dawinzi is not so subtly alluding to your post seeming to shill for David Todeschini, aka Ciphoenix aka awesomelasers, the child molester!

In addition to his reputation around here as a shady character, his specs are greatly inflated.

If you are not a shill or in fact David himself, Welcome. If you are, NOT Welcome.

EDIT: I have to learn to type faster...

Well I guess I'll take that as "welcome", hah. I'm legit, you can find my handle on arfcom as well.

beamshot has one but it's 4k, a little more than I was willing to spend...

Sorry for asking this, but ..... am i the only one that think that, mounting a lasersight device on a (basically) long-distance sniping rifle, is maybe a bit of countersense ?

I mean, something like a .50 cal barrett, isn't usually intended for hidden sniping ? ..... lasersights, same as trackers, works in both the directions ..... maybe is just a personal feeling, but i feel very strange, to mount on a hidden sniping rifle a bright beam that say to anyone you point at "hello, i'm here" ..... ;)

would stick to ir lasers and use some an/pvs-7 googles or cheap night vision for up to say 300m at night further than that I would shoot in the day with a scope, dont know if them mounts from dx can handle anything near the recoil of a .50 though.

@anselm Yup all out of bubblegum, it must be @55 kickin' time.

I have to agree with HIMNL9, seems like a bad idea to give the other interested party a tracer back to the source of the shot.

Just as a possible alternative, if your into a little bit of DIY. Look at some of the 5mW gun sight mounts because getting the green laser won't be the hard part, finding a mount that will fit the gun will be.

Get the 5mW laser with mount, and look for one that you can take the module out or something, then you could replace the module with a more powerful laser, as most of the modules tend to be a standard size.

Check out o-like.com for reasonably priced modules, very good customer service and on spec lasers :) She's a reputable seller on the forum.

If from the link you posted you are looking at something in a flashlight style look at some of "Jayrobs" kits here on the forum, he makes custom heatsinks for green lasers to fit into flash light hosts.

1500th Post, yay :)

@ Thereddish: Uhm, i doubt this, used as they are (anyway, also a scope need some special protection or a recoil-handler for use it on a .50 or bigger calibers) ..... is not impossible to build something, but is not too much easy, at hobby level ..... it require access to precision machines and hardening steel tools .....

Depending on who makes the .50 in question, their are plenty of scope option, but an IR laser should be stable, you can fit m.i.l.e.s lasers on a M2 can you not? Green is out of the qustion though, well with out getting a hardened soild state laser.

I myself use a 445 for target practice though, not like anyone is down range. gives an ar-15 a nice hip fire quick reaction spot, after 300 meters though the spot to big and and very dim in the day.
