7mm long DIY 532nm laser TINY!

If I don't know better, I would say you invented the green laser diode.

Such a small laser module would bring alot of new possibilities.

Not really... This is still considered DPSS.. A green laser diode would
not use an 808nm IR LD to pump a crystal set.. Besides, green LD's
do exist and are available at a high $$$ value. Last I read, they may become
available to the hobby community when their use increases in items
like laser pico projectors..

I would like to think of it as the worlds smallest DPSS though :eg:

I cant really call it that yet... I still have
to work in the optics and IR filter, but it will be much smaller
and hopefully more powerful than any other.

Making an RGY pointer out of this is pretty clever.

Just yesterday, before I saw this thread, I was feeling proud of myself for getting 205mW peak, 175mW avg. out of a DIY greenie.
The module with optics is minimized to 30mm x 12mm (excluding driver), but this mini-Aixiz greenie is just too small!

What kind of divergence do you hope to get with such a small setup?

You should post your 532nm builds, there just aren't enough 532 stuff
in the forum. Not 'ground up' builds anyways..

This latest one was a spur of the moment thing. I had a CNI module with a bum diode and decided to dig through the junk box and get it working again.

Next time I put something together, I'll make sure to share it.
Maybe I'll take up the challenge and see if I can get a mini green running as well...

Im using 650nm as the only 635's I have are 7mw 5.6mm. I have a couple
of c-mount 635's but the beam requires far too much correction to fit
in a small handheld.


Whenever I start any project, I just snap some pics as I go. Some
pics I use in posts, other I just keep like a diary for my laser work..

Yesh those are pretty small, I might try a couple out.
I wonder how the optics are. Im still going for a shorter module
but those are ready made which is never a bad thing.

I've gotten a few 635nm diodes from 5mW pointers to do up to 13mW.
Pushing them any more kills them. A good one will put out 8-10mW with an uncoated acrylic lens.

At 8mW, they are about twice as bright as a 10mW 650nm pen I have.
However, I suspect that the wavelength shifts toward 640nm as the power is increased, as the color seems slightly less red-orange and more red compared to another diode at 5mW.

It would make it easier to match the color balance with higher brightness red.
Also, the 635nm diodes are case positive like the 808nm pumps - which may make configuring the batteries easier.
And... IIRC, the red/IR combo diodes are case positive as well. I'm not sure what power they are good for.

I cant remember what mix ratio I had played with before, but I have not even tried
a 635 for yellow. Now you've gone and planted a seed :tsk:

Im curious to see what colour range can be had with the 635 and 532.
The only problem is I cant fit a red green combo into a pen. So having to stick
with slightly larger builds, I would also prefer 2-300mW of red for a nice
hot beam.

I will experiment with the 635, and if I like it enough over the 650,
it may be time to look at doing it with higher power 635's.

Its unfortunate that the higher power 635's are so costly
and a pain to deal with. Too bad DVD's are not written and read
with 635nm :undecided:
