Texas Laserist Meet. Postponed to Fall

I am trying to throw together a POP_UP Mini STEXLEM on Nov 13/14th in Freeport- got a warehouse lined up today and two of the 'Big Guys' from Pl are comimg to town and bringng full color projectors to do a 'free' show for us! These guys are true pros and you will really enjoy meeting them and seeing thier machines-- I will invite others too including Dr Chuck-owner of Aixiz lasers and some of the PL/LPF members from Austin amd DFW but even if none of them can make it -- we still have 300EVIL and Displaser!!!! We will have a swap meet( I will have two complete SL argons for sale and you can see them both in action) and free food and beer at the Festival of Lights in Lake Jackson-- compliments on my BBQ team-- there is a cheap motel walking distance and I will talk to the owner soon to see about a cheap rate for a few rooms.


I got the warehouse for 150$ and will accept any donations to help pay for it-(or not)- I will start a thread on this in General section and one over at PL too-- tell your friends invite anybody that is willing to sign a waiver-- all are welcome- It may be an all-nighter- bring stuff to sell or trade-- knivers and LED freaks are welcome too. Pets allowed. Crash in the warehouse on your air mattress-- Big fenced in parking lot--

I will have some red HeNes to sell and other items of interest. If it works there may be a bigger one at the same venue next fall. We have three small foggers- tables and chairs- and a small sound system already -- PM me if you have stuff to bring that we may need. Post in the thread what you are bringing to sell/trade. Look for POP-UP LEM in S. Texas.

Hey Len,

Can I somehow copy this to CPF? There are many members from the Houston area who can't make it up to Dallas that would love to see your lasers. I had a great time meeting LPF guys at the DFW GTG, I'm sure this is going to be a fun time.

BTW, since I know nothing about lasers, is there a single safety lens that would be safe for all types of of lasers? I know high power LED's will cause eye damage, but not in the magnitude as lasers.

Air800- last ? first--not sure what you mean by safety lens--my best advice is, of course, lasers need to be handled exactly like firearms-- dont point any anybody or living anything or vehicle/aircraft ever-- IMO as shining a low power red cat toy laser carelessly can lead to doing the same with higher power lasers- so I dont even recommend thier use for pets-- a tennis ball or feather on a string/ stick is always a better choice-but that is a another whole discussion.

There are ways to spread a thin beam out into a less dangerous 'fat' beam but I still discourage shining any lasers, even at a persons feet- A cap over the end of some lasers can cause damage if the laser is on. if any people are behind you or your laser is aim way over thier heads you are safer but not totally safe- lasers can reflect and get lowered by accident. The Pros that do laser shows must have so many safety features in place that it would seem that they can never even do public show-- but they do. Variance and compliance is VERY safety intense and prolly more work than the actual show. It can take up to 18 months to get all the proper paperwork approved!!

Anyone attending my LEM will be required to sign a waiver. This is done AFAIK at all LEMs or should be.

I may want to use this Venue for a future LEM and do not want it to appear as some kind of Rave. I have no idea how the neighbors will react even tho I plan to talk to all of them in advance- I will prolly pay an off-duty local cop to act as security. I will be wanting everybody to stay inside the building as much as possible, but I welcome all and you can copypasta anything I post- I need any sponsors that I can get- Lighthound- if anybody has a friend there-is located in Houston IIRC and so is AixiZ- I am working on AixiZ as we speak.

These event are an excellant place for a swapmeet and to meet/network with like-minded people. I will know for sure in the next 48 hrs if this will happen- I have nobody locally to help me-- There will be a ton of work for my tired old ass to do.

But I was so impressed with the SELEM event that I must, as least, give it a go.

IMHO any LEM attended by two or more is a success.

added note-- go to youtube and look for vids from LEM to see what you have missed or an idea of what you will see if you go to one. Also go to PL and look for photos from 2010 SELEM( meet n greet section)-- they will blow you away.

I had HOPED to make the last one - but it's too far for my, "ol' broken-down-self" to travel If any show up within about an hour of San Antonio, I'll hopefully be there ! Looks like they had fun 0 I see Windstrings brought his HID portable (OUCH !)
