Hey guys maybe Im just crazy are just very excited but I still have not received my Laser Glow 75mw green as I should be receiving it today. I already want to place an Order for an Arctic Spyder 1 Watt! Is it normal that I should already want one to use in my garage and try some burning, do you guys think its a good idea, because it honestly seems like a steal, Ive searched the boards and found some pretty interesting info but would like a second opinion because I woud like to order this babe today!! :undecided:

Seeing as none of them have been shipped out yet, I certainly wouldn't order from WL (who knows when you'll get it). I think DragonLasers sells some, and you can also make your own.

I would advise you to stick with the 75mw for now though, atleast for a while. It's always good to "learn" on one that might have less safety concerns. With a 1W, it's only going to take one time to cause some serious damage to your eyes.

Just my opinion though. If you still want to go for it I'd advise DragonLasers or build your own with a kit (that's what I'm doing).

2 Forum members already got their Arctics.
If a shipping time of 1-2 months doesnt bother you go for the arctic.
Otherwise the DragonLasers is a good choice.
CNI also offers 445nm handhelds, but only up to 500mW.

I bet you are waiting on the doorstep for the mailman, I remember i did that too but my package was already in mailbox.. :D

Which ones?

One member got one yesterday. The thread was deleted while I slept. The other one was delivered to an online mag for review. A member posted about the article. The actual review won't happen until Friday.

Peace,
dave

All I've got to say is - welcome to your new addiction. :)

This is certainly an addiction. I just got my 75mw at work and opened it up to find that beautiful metallic looking storage case it comes with (nice touch) I guess I'll keep this one for a while and if I really gets exctied then I'll send it back and try their 150-250mw Justin told em the 250mw would blow my socks off. I just want to be able to see the beam go through the park in front of my house. I think its about 50feet long thats all , I'll see im just anxious to go buy my batteries and see how it works. Would you guys recommend eventually getting re-chargable batteries for better output? I was actually waiting outside the parts department when the UPS truck showed up I had a huge smile on my face and the truck drivers asked me what it was. I told him a laser and he was like " a laser? this isn't star wars" I had no responce just a bigger smile, and took my package. I'll do a review for you guys in a couple of days and once I get the hand of using my laser I'll take some pics!!!!

not sure what batteries their 75mW uses, but most of the higher powered lasers (those not in pen hosts) will use 18650s which are rechargeable. Assuming theres a good driver in your laser, I dont think you need to worry too much about output power, the driver should maintain the right current until your batteries are drained significantly. Sounds like nice shipping time too :gj:

edit: thought it was a pen host you had lol. laserglow seems to do things a bit differently.

The Aires takes two "C" batteries as shown on there website. However; I have heard of some of the higher powered models (like >250mw) having the 18650. Yours will probably have the "C"x2. But I can't guarantee that. Though you can easily tell by looking inside it. The 18650 is about ~18-18.6mm in diameter where as "C"'s are quite larger.

I would definitely get rechargeable batteries. I myself can run down a set quickly. I can't suggest a good brand as I haven't owned anything needing "C" batteries since I can remember. Just try and get some with high capacity. I just saw one with 6000mAh which seems pretty good.

If I were you, I would forget the Spyder III Arctic. Not heard much good in any of it. Wicked has just created an awesome looking host that grabs a lot of attention, but CNI (the maker of your Aires) has the reputation for making awesome units. Much more important.

^This. If you're getting it from LaserGlow, it will use the 2 C cells. I think you can only get the model for 18650s direct from CNI/in a group buy.

Electron has changed his sig to reflect that the Arctic 'rocks baby' and spdkllz has. If you go to the Arctic thread that's up now, he's reposted the pics and stuff there.

Lolz, I thought 500 mw is a lot of power :P

Yeah but red is boring. Been around forever. Cant do over 400mWs in most cases. Hard to see beam, and didnt have florescence. I still love my Blu-Rays, but the price still needs to come down some before I can pop for a 12X.
