I don't know if anyone has seen this before, maybe so but I ran across this the other day and thought I'd share it just in-case.

I've seen a couple of methods to pressing a Diode into a module and who hasn't, we have diode press tools offered here on LPF, and elsewhere too that are of a great help also.

Some even use the back of the module to press the diode in, but it may not be seated all the way down.

So here is a something I came across that I first laughed at, and then on a rainy boring day I decided to play around with this and was very surprised at how easy it really works, and it does get the diode seated properly.

The tool is a "brake adjuster from a bicycle" yea it made me laugh too when I first seen the pictures and read it. It is also has a hole right through the center, so while the article doesn't mention this part, you can even get your wires through it if your diode already has wire leads soldered on it.

In playing around with it I discovered it can also remove your Diode for you too without damaging it; that was really neat considering this "tool" will only cost your a dollar or two, and you might already have some lying around your house.

I would suggest you try this out on a dead diode a couple of times to be sure it works for you, as I have no idea if all the "brake adjuster from a bicycle" are the same size and will work. I worked for me time after time that I tried it, and I was amazed I could press the diode out too.

So this is not my original idea/work I'm just sharing what I found, I don't want to take any credit for coming up with this method from scratch.

Here's the pictures of it and the source of the original info if you want to read more on it.

Laser diodes - It can be done

huh . . . wonder if one of those presta to schrader valve adaptor things would work as well . . . or a hacked up presta valve . . .

That looks interesting, if you try it out let us know how it goes.

pretty close, a little sloppy, looks like the brake adjuster or a whacked off presta valve would be a better fit . . .

I found a very small (1/16 or 2mm) 1/4" drive socket works great. Nice flat surfaces to work with, very strong, so you can't bend or break it and cheap, $1.99 at Sears.
That's what I started out with, until I turned out my own custom one on my lathe. I almost like the socket better, it's easier to align correctly over the pins because of the thinner walls.

Nice find!! I love finding thing around the house that I already own (or cheap to buy) that makes the job easier.

Before I got my flaminpyro carbon steel diode press (works perfect BTW), I used one of these

It one of those tools you get in the cheap eye glass repair kits. It unscrews in 3 places so I just use the end piece you see at the bottom, the pins of the diode fit in the hole and the OD is smaller than 5.6mm so it presses the diode below flush!!

Also as Greenmechanic said, I've used the right sized socket

I was not able to source a brake adjuster like the OP. But I did find an eye glass kit like the one above and it worked great!

Used it to press a 445 into its new home:

I honestly don't remember, probably wal-wart or something. Maybe one of those things hanging at the cash register. Actually, now I think of it, check out some drug stores and their eye-glass section

WalMart, they were with the reading glasses in the pharmacy section. Its a little plastic pouch that has a micrfiber cloth, spray bottle of glass cleaner, and the tool.
