Hi all,
I thought I'd share a few photos of a few Helium Neon laser tubes in my collection. If you have some amazing tubes, share your photos on here too.

That is one HUGE photo and one HUGE tube!

Do people often commend you on the size of your cavity? :)

Sweet pics. I remember that not long ago, Dave had one or two of the tubes featured in picture 3 for sale. I absolutely adore the looks of these tubes, they have this cool "steampunk" style that just begs for a housing made out of wood and brass!!!

The tube in the last picture looks particularly badass, what is it?

Probably a Hughes tube from an aircraft. Any idea on the power of that rather large tube in the first picture?

I'm pretty sure Dave has a massive one.... 30+mws perhaps?

I'll try and dig up the thread...

MarioMaster has identical ones to the one Dave has, Dave's is doing ~30mW, but I believe there was some tweaking needed to be done. Mario's are doing 40mW+ I think...he claims to have popped a balloon with one. They're Spectra Physics Model 124's, if I recall.

The really long tube in the first pic of the OP looks like the GreeNe that meredith was selling on ebay for $200, it looks neat but I dont care for the metal things throughout the tube...

Those supports look cool I think.

@timelablasers---Do you have any pics of these babies running? Also, there are a few in your pics that I'd like to have, so If you are looking to get rid of a few or just want some spare cash let me know, the three I like the most are the first three, the long one, then the really small one, and the one after that....

Um, I hate to give you bad news, but I'm pretty sure your holosonics is a pulsed argon or xenon. The ceramic bore is a giveaway.

GAS-ION LASER WITH GAS PRESSURE ... - Google Patent Search

Stabilizing electrode for cold ... - Google Patent Search

The tube pressure is really low, between 20-100 microns, so the valve lets you refill the tube, as it burns gas into the tube walls as it runs. '

The valve will have a scratch on the barrel that acts as a slow leak.

I've been looking for one for years. Now that I've seen a pic I'm happy!

Thank you Steve, for taking the time to research and identify the tube! I got it in about '92 from a fellow holographer, who worked briefly there in the late '70s but couldn't tell me anything about it. Going through old Laser Foci magazines got me pictures of Holosonics lasers but not the insides. I think you're right about it. Looks like a discarded "first go at it" tube. I really appreciate your filling in the story about it.
