I doubt c0ldshadow/et. al and the owners of the advertisements flanking this post mind the massive influx of traffic enough to hide this subforum. :)

>2k visitors is normal. This "bump" is not nearly as large as ones we have had before. If you will notice the "most ever" is >26K. Our "visitors" count is not the reasons we shoud be concerned.

Visitors count can be skewed also, as not everyone logs in if just reading posts.

When I check from work I don't login unless posting something.

Education is never bad, I'm not sure what bad influence they could get from coming here and reading about safety issues, proper usage, and public image.

I voted accessible to members only but I also agree about promoting safety so if it could be split between safety and how to build a super powerful laser then even better.

Not only should it be accessible to members it should be only visible to members. IMO. Guests shouldn't even know it's here..

I agree with ElekroFreak. With WL and manufactures making these lasers, why should this forum also give info to anyone. Thats just my $.02!

I'll agree with EF also. Since the 445nm craze has come about, I can count how many new members I've seen wanting to buy these. These new members are the ones who have just joined and only have 20 post or less. I have to wonder what drove them to these new diodes? Is the 1W power? That's kinda of scary. If they were so into lasers where were they before?

They can find out about how to build lasers generically from just about anywhere on this forum. They'll have found out about the Arctic from big news sites... but here they can actually find decent safety information. Making it viewable to members only is a terrible idea that could even be called irresponsible. It's not like it even effects anything, if someone wants to spam or say something idiotic they'll be making an account anyway. If you want to talk about making this subforum members only then make the entire forum that way. We're just going to end up having the same discussions in other subforums when the sony projectors come out at the end of the year.

IIRC the 26K max was when FML's LED ball thread was linked from some other website. Somewhat funny that it really had nothing to do with lasers.

All we would see is a influx of new members who post nothing. At least make a section devoted to 445 safety, then a section that is viewable only to members with a certain number of posts or proof of safety glasses or a quiz or something.

Most people are not wanting the info in the 445 section, they most likely intend to just buy a complete laser, not build their own. Besides the 445 section is just filled with BS about the arctic laser that nobody has ever even seen yet. IMO anything related to the arctic should be closed and the 445 section should be for "home brew" stuff only, the chaos wicked has caused seems to have flowed over into the research of the new diode.
If we were to remove everything about the arctic and only allow build your own stuff it might discourage people from trying to make their own. Just my 0.02...
