I came across a 405nm diode spec'd @ 500+mW

So I was browsing around for electronics and came across a site that had 405nm diodes. They were new diodes, not harvested from sleds. The manufacturer data tables show that it factory rated over 500mW with an "absolute max output" of close to 700mW... Does that seem fairly high to you guys?

Maximum Operating specs:
650 mA, 600mW, 140 mA threshold, 4.6V, and a 5.6mm floated can.
Multi transverse mode (:undecided:) with a ~2:1 axis ratio (40deg on the fast axis)
Are all blu ray diodes slightly multimode to some extent? I recall reading something like this.

So operating WITHIN SPEC might give us a nice LONG LIFE class IV bluray option.
I'm going to work on procuring a few.

Who makes the actual 12X diode parts? I seem to recall sony mass producing alot of 405nm cans. Did they make the 12X's? If so, this might be a source for 12X diodes (w/o sleds)then.

I also just came across some 50mW single mode rated 445nm diodes.
Sure, it's not the crazy 1W monster diodes, but it claims to be single mode and 50mw... could make a nice pointer.

Check the spec's on the 50mW one. It may be in a 3.6mm package

Peace,

Osram has a 3.6mm 50mW singlemode 445nm diode, around $1400 each from one of their distributors. Back to the blu-ray diodes, any updates on those?

Evidently Nichia makes these BR diodes... the website only has a Japan phone number for Laser Diode inquiries. (+81-3-3456-3108)
I'm not sure I want to dial international numbers - I'm not even sure what it will cost me let alone if they speck english.

Does anyone have a USA number to speak with nichia about LDs?

:crackup:I doubt they 'SPECK' english..:undecided:.. J/K....I hope the diodes are up to 'speak'....lol
