I'd probably just avoid laserlands altogether for glasses...
I hate to put all the blame on Merry's shoulders; I would say that as a rule of thumb, any pair of goggles under ~$40 are going to be "iffy"... . Some sites even write "OD 3" in the description, which is certainly better than writing absolutely nothing, but I would still take that statement with a grain of salt... . I.E., there is no "certificate" to go with their claim... :-/

Although not surprising, the problem is many members are shelling out 90% of their budget for their first killer laser (the ah... Dilda comes to mind...) and then trying to obtain some safety glasses for a twenty-dollar bill & change... .

Our best bet is to buy form a VERY TRUSTWORTHY source, like OEM laser Systems, Nova Lasers, etc. and/or to obtain a certification along with your goggles. As a matter of fact, OEM used to have a great deal for us, around $45 for certified goggles - both 660nm and 405/532nm but I can't find the link anymore... :undecided:

Mine came with signed certification papers, stating the exact OD for each specific range of wavelengths covered by said goggles.

There are exeptions though, the $8 focalprice goggles for green works perfectly, blocks everything.

Oddly, that seems to be true from what I read. I got a broken pair so I didn't bother testing xD

And I really don't blame Merry, she's great with customer service and I'm sure sells decent lasers, but this purchase was certainly a waste. I mean, I didn't expect anything less, but still.

For high quality glasses or goggles, go with OEMLaserSystems. To save a few bucks and still get a decent pair of glasses, you may even try ZoneStealth. I've gotten quite a few people to recommend them to me and plan to order/review a pair as soon as I can. :p

I'm impressed. I'd love to read a professional review on them; could you please provide us with a link? Thanks!

EDIT: Ok, I found one review with a lot of effort behind it. Although it's not strictly an official testing method, I will say that it is a whole lot better than I expected to find and so I will have to have a deeper look into it. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see guaranteed protection at an affordable price. I'm certain many members don't own goggles because they can't afford them, so clearly I'm all for affordable goggles - as long as they are not misleading.

There could be nothing worse than wearing goggles you *think* will protect you - but can't. This will almost certainly lead to a lax in safety procedures, with someone looking down the "barrel" of their 200mW laser to see if it's working...

That review kinda focuses on blu-ray protection while the goggles are designed to protect 532nm, the only green measurements are done without IR-filter, which means nothing really. But if you shine a 100mW+ greenie on them, NO visible green at all goes through, so definately less than like 0.1mW. So with an IR-filtered green laser, these goggles are even more safe than that review suggests.

With all due respect, can you please provide some form of evidence (reviews or tests, etc.) when making such concrete statements, thanks.

Made a new thread just for you...
Thanks for the time and effort, but it's not for me*, it's for everyone that needs safety glasses but can't afford to spend to much *and* would like to have some reassurance that the glasses actually work. Now they have your review (too) and they can make their own decision. I'm not the safety officer here, I just happen to think it's important...

*I'm already covered...

It was like $13, and Merry has always been really nice to me... maybe I'm just kind hearted, but I don't mind taking that little monetary hit. At least I got a review out of it :D

Well you're a better person than I am. Remember niceness won't protect your eyeballs.

I know..right. If you got blinded you'd be singing a different tune.

Its their responsibility to give you some protection. Those are just colored lenses and nothing more. You got ripped off, and so are the others who are going to buy them.

I think this, along with the pile of other negative reviews of Laserland is good cause to stop referring them to people. I could care less if Merry is nice or not. They are a business selling faulty products that could hurt people. WTF.

Where is Niko to add this to the RT?
