While scanning for a last minute alternative to the 150mW o-like (to save some coins) I saw this from DealExtreme:

"United States Customers Only: due to new regulations enforced by the US FDA and PayPal, orders of >5mW lasers units shipped to the United States are no longer accepted. Orders that were previously accepted and unshipped will be cancelled and refunded to customers. This affects United States orders only."

So when did this go into effect? I bought a 50mW from Led Shoppe on the Oct 17th and they said it shipped on the 20th. So does this not apply to some overseas companies, are some taking chances or did this just happen? If so, wouldn't this skyrocket prices U.S. based companies charge?

They're just being lame. Lasers over 5mW without the meeting the proper criteria have always been illegal to import into the US. 90% of the times though, they do get past customs. I personally had one imported in July.

Had a couple 5mW for a few years and I thought that was the s%#! but now that I found this freakin' site, I think about "MORE BEAM" all day long and no s%#!, in my dreams all the time. I've been racking my pea-sized brain for the past two weeks trying to find the brightest long lasting green handheld for around $100us and even sold my brand new 50mW Opto not even a week after I got the damn thing just so I could save up for something brighter. So you tell me, am I addicted?:D

Another thing about DX is that the lasers vary considerably in quality. If you buy two 100mW green pens from them, one may be weak or mode hop, the other might be near spec. I have a 200mW DX green baton style laser that only puts out 100mW. Red lasers from DX seem to be consistant in power. O-like seem to look at their stuff before it goes out, so you are more likely to get a laser from them that functions at or near its' rated power. If you absolutely need a laser from DX, there is a member here who was arranging shipment of DX lasers to the US.

Thanks but I'll pass. I'm going to let all this soak in my brain or a bit, enjoy the Led Shoppe 50mW that's just days away and then probably buy either the o-like 100mW or 150mW.

Sounds like a yes to me lol. I'm literally in live with my 125mW. I'm thinking of eventually saving up for one of those 200mW green o-like modules and making my own green. We'll see though.

You scared me. I thought you were reporting that DX had stopped shipping to the US in general!

DX ships to the US. I think that is on their site to look like they follow all the rules. I have got some toys from DX that are over 5mW, (in the last couple months).

so should I go ahead and try to get a 200mw red? maybe in special instructions I could put to mark it as a flashlight. If customs finds it will they send it back and I get a refund?

If you live in the US customs will just take it and you will not get any compensation.

If you wait a little bit I can tell you if my shipment arrives.

But mkdive seems to be getting high power laser into the US just fine.
