hi guys im new here and iv been reading a lot on the forum and just wanted to ask a few questions on my first laser build

i want to make a labby laser first in a project box using a dc power jack and a power pack that i can plug in to my wall to power my laser>>>(open can diode w/rkcstr driver 420ma)

but one thing its 12voilts is there anyway i can get it down to 6v to 7v with a resistor or something ?

or do they make 6v power packs i can buy that will work with a size M dc power jack any help would be awesome :)
 





You'll get an answer pretty quickly on here soon. I'm not the best one to advise you myself but you could always have something that takes an equal 6 volts as part of the entire circuit to reduce the voltage that way. Maybe a light to show that its on

You could just buy a 6V DC Power Adapter, not sure what a size M dc power jack is though.

If you wanted to convert 12 V DC to 6 V DC you could use a litlte voltage regulator circuit, they are pretty easy to build. I like the LM317 voltage regulator.

I suggest taking your size M dc power jack with you when you
purchase a 6 Volt AC adapter (wall wart)..

Resistors and zenor diodes or a 7806 regulator can be used BUT heatsinking would be needed. Look for a 6 volt wall wart with sufficient current rating. You can always solder on a new connector.

They sell DC power adapters that have a selector switch so you can choose your power options of; 1.5, 3, 6, 9,or 12 Volts DC. They are also equipped with a polarity switch, so you can switch your polarity to whatever you choose. You can find them almost anywhere (WalMart, Walgreens, Sears) etc. for about $10.00 -$15.00. I have several for running different items in my house. I think they're great, 'cause you can use them to run items that use different voltages just by changing the voltage selector switch. They also come with about 5-6 different jack sizes for the plug in, including the dual 9 Volt jack.............rob
 
sweet.........thanks phoenix77 and to every one else, ill go to WalMart and se if they have that. I think that would be good so i can use it for many different things
 
N/P darkshadow, this Forum is THE BEST place to get your ???'s answered for anything involving lasers, electronics, etc. We have some real geniuses here, (unfortunately I'm NOT one of them, LOL) but a lot of the members here really know their stuff.
