I have the an argon laser: Head 2201RD-40MLA made June 1998, Power supply 2101-40MLA made May 1993
I have this information about it, but I do not understand how to use it:
Like, how do I add a pot to it so I can increase current to 10A? Also, iis the stock fan good enough for 10A use?
* Laser output power control: Pin 5 is source+, pin 1 is source- (source ranges from 0 to 10 VDC). The sensitivity is 0.1 V/mW. Current control and local control shunts must be removed for power control to be active.
* Laser current control: Pin 6 is source+, pin 1 source- (source ranges from 0 to 10 VDC). The sensitivity is 0.5 V/A.
* Laser output power monitor: Pin 29 to pin 30, 0.1 V/mW.
* Laser current monitor: Pin 26 to pin 27, 0.1 V/A.
* Local control shunt: Pin 13 to pin 12 (enables pot on front panel for light mode).
* Current control shunt: Pin 15 to pin 14.
* Laser standby, discharge on: Pin 34 to pin 35 (allows laser to only run at idle current, about 4 A).
* Interlock: Pin 36 to pin 37.
* Laser shutdown: Pin 33 to pin 35 (disables discharge, cathode remains on).
* External power supplies: Pin 25 is +15 VDC, pin 24 is -15 VDC, pin 23 is return.
* Power ground: Pin 4.

Long time -- no reply to you --- Welll ---------------------
I have an ML uniphase with a 2102 power supply.
Shorting pins 13 & 14 together puts it to max power.
That's all I know - maybe someone else has more info. Slowly reducing resistance between those pins might show some increase.
Gus -- where are you?

Mike

Junktronix appears to be down. I have not accessed the site for awhile. When was the last time you accessed it?

Peace,
dave

Apparently it was just bad timing. Thanks. I would have been very sad to see junktronix gone :yabbem:

Peace,
dave

Yeah works for me too
In addition, how am I supposed to connect to the pins? Where can I get the connector,etc

Maplins/Radioshack sell them.

Just use a DB25 cable ( Parallel cable ) and plug the male end into the power supply. Then buy a DB25 connector that fits the other end off the cable and solder your wire to the pins that way. That's the best way to do it for a permanent setup.

Keep in mind the head will only last a little longer than your average light bulb at that current.

It doesn't have a db-25, only this big round thing with lots of pins

Ahhh I see, it's the model 2201 not the 2214 :yabbem: I should have read the first post more thoroughly.

I think the round connectors you are talking about are called Amphenol connectors.

Hm, do you have any idea which amphenol connector? Like the part number?

yeah I have the part number. I'll post it tomorrow for sure, but tonight I just got back from camping and I'm sun-burnt and I'm going to bed :p
