O-like new blu-ray pwm driver ?

From the images, it looks as a PWM step-up converter driving an external power transistor (or mosfet, can't read correctly the part numbers)

Someone already tried them ?

For those interested in boost drivers, I might be bringing out out soon that can supply 250mA at 5V from a 1.5V supply. Think AAA battery maybe?! Some testing needs to be done, but I hope to give more info soon

Love that hand-soldered look. That jumper wire going across the board is especially charming. Looks like a piece of a twist tie they found on the shop floor. The spring is kinda nice to have, I just wonder how sturdy it is and if it'll put much strain on the diode pins like that..

Interestingly it looks like the case pin of the diode is used for something... I can't imagine what, since blurays have nothing connected to the case... Also it looks like this driver is case positive.. I wonder if you have the option of using that red wire or using the case pin on the diode instead... Very odd. What's more odd is that if this were originally made for a greenie (entirely likely) then why is the max current only 150mA? What IR pump operates that low??

As far as i know, til now there's no way for get 250mA at 5V starting with a single 1.5V cell ..... on all my datasheets about PWM boost drivers, the maximum that i've found is the 34xx serie ..... 3400 can give 100mA at 3.3V, using a single cell, and 3429 reach 250ma, but still at 3.3V, from 2 cells, and those are the more efficents i've tested (anyway, i don't have all the IC's and datasheets, so if there's something similar around, please let me know )

But from an AAA cell ? ..... also if it's possible, i guess it require so much current that your AAA cell last 30 seonds or few more, before die (or start to self-crunch like a can pulled from vacuum, for all the current it suck from the cell, LOL - j/k)

Dunno ..... they say blue-ray driver, maybe they ordered from an external maker, and the maker use this module for something other, originally ?

Also, the description say "Blu-ray diode driver 4-5V 50-150mA", but don't say if 4-5V is the output or the input ..... maybe we need to wait til the official tester (lasersbee ? ) get his own and can test them :thinking:

I'm hoping it can. It should definitely work with 1 AA battery. The spec cheet says that it can give a max 8v, and 1.5W, so it could run a long open can diode at 400mA for a while. The drivers are already complete, and I just found a supplier.

These are the drivers that both O-Like and Rayfoss use in they're violet lasers. I'm sure it was designed for blu-ray.

Where that jumper is, is a perfect spot for a 6 x 3 mm tactile switch. With this driver you could make a keychain blue ray pointer... if it will actually run off of 4.5 volts.
