all items cost $38 to ship-at JL- BUT DHL Express is the best--the fastest--BUT most important the most reliable --I got >10 orders of 10 or more pcs and NEVER any opened boxes or inspections or problems of any kind--best $38 you can spend..IMHO

JL actually replaces lasers lost in shipping---SO--they use the best-- DHL- with cheap shipping you may get an empty box or nothing at all.---'Penny wise pound foolish' same w/ batts--NEVER (when crossing borders ) ship batts w/ laser--terrible idea-- they are cheap-- would you send a loaded gun??--- IF opened do you really think that they would NOT try the laser out?? who knows what might happen-- they know nothing about safe use OR duty/rest cycling--overheat--kill it then send it to you...OR .harm someones eyes 'even worse'.

I only sold mine to CONUS members-- to save on shipping BUY more at one time-- 10 pcs cost me the same as one JL==SO
I was able to help with ship cost as each buyer paid his share on the JL to me costs.. plus I inspected and metered every one and I never had to reject any.
BTW I offer to ship back to JL if needed ----so my buyers only had to pay to send to me--I 'save' them until I have a few to return and JL pay me back for returning costs---

I just joined this forum. Got scammed once and started doing research. Ive taken a 36 hr online crash course in these things. I’ve actually learned more than I expected.

I wanted something powerful, cool, and quality-

It took some scouring. But it came down to Sanwu or JL. I went with JL because of the money to value ratio. I couldn’t afford the right now 5w Striker, but soon..
I got a 3w Pl-E Pro 445 - with the key lock and code switch (holster, lol). Should be here (Michigan✋) within 15-21 days (??)

...well I couldn’t wait so I decided to blow $48 on eBay on a (1w?) blue Gatling gun. with the case and b.s. glasses just to get “warmed up” 🔥
So : what should I expect? I paid $277 w/shipping for it. Will they come through?

I see many people with those cheap Gatling guns that actuallywork quite well ... until they don’t that is ...😤

I just hope it works until the JL arrives. Good to know you buy in bulk. Lemme know 🥳!
Tnx.

Welcome. Revel in your newfound knowledge and enjoy.

I would have just waited for the JL. It's worth it, trust me. If you are asking what you should expect from JL, they are one of if not THE highest rated company on here for shipping and customer service, so I wouldn't worry ;)

The gatling is an ugly cheapo. It is a bit over one watt but a Thor would have been much nicer. Then again, that would be completely irrelevant once the JL got there :)

Oh! I bought them both. I meant I couldn’t wait for the PL-E 3w to arrive, so I bought a $48 Gatling from a US supplier. Should be herein a few days.😎

(and I also bought a used JL PL-E 5w in new like condition (supposedly) that I on the way.)

What about Sanwu? Other than they’re awesome (!) Worth the money?

Is there a huge difference between 5w-3w? And do I really need anything more than 1000mW to decently burn? Candles? Campfire? Cigarette?
Thanks again..

I understand you bought them both. I was just saying I would have just waited for the JL because for all intents and purposes, that's $50 in the trash once the PL-E gets there :p

Personally. I love Sanwu for the ridiculous amount of wavelengths and power levels they have. And the hosts are real DIY custom made type that are really unique. A little more pricey, and pretty overpriced in the lower powers but quality is as good if not better than JL.

1W will burn anything. The question is what you want to burn. Lighting candles needs multiple watts, lighting a campfire without an accelerent is next to impossible with any handheld, and 1W will light a cigarette pretty easily.

Going from what you said, with 3-5W you can burn literally anything, including your eyes. Make sure you get an EaglePair ;)

This is a TL;DR

(Ah yes, I misread that .. thank you... if anything, Ill have a cool looking silver paperweight for $48 - I just had to try one. ... I saw the diy kits offered here... I’d *actually* like to try building my own. Maybe. Not super good with electronics- but I can solder. And I can learn. Those Sanwu’s are insane looking. I like the JL ones cuz they offer a key lock. Which I believe by law, is required to carry, for lack of a better term a CL. IV laser. Not sure if a code(d) switch qualifies. Actually not sure how a coded switch works. )

Guessing the beam pretty much looks the same, especially at night as far as power ratings(?). I have a used 5w pl-e 445 JL on the way that comes with JL glasses..190-540&800-2000nm OD4+ .. what wavelengths are these good for? I’m super nervous abouta reflection bouncing off something..🥺

I kinda would like to have several. For different applications. I work in a restaurant. I’d like to get into culinarily art. Yup. I said it. If it’s not a thing already it’s going to be, lol..

Maybe another for outdoor/travel-emergency type of stuff.

Or maybe a Floyd concert if they ever tour again. “No Water’s? F*** you. I AM putting on the show!”

(disclaimer: just kidding. I’d never shine one of these carelessly in public. I’m fully aware the dangers of these items.)

Can't blame you for trying. That's pretty much my philosophy lol.

Building your own is the end goal of any laser lover and is a huge satisfaction. And, it can be pretty easy to get into as there are beginner kit offered.

Yep, the Sanwu's are definitely sexy for sure.

As far as a key lock...

If I recall correctly, all that stuff is a bunch of baloney created in the big laser scare years ago. In the US, it is legal to own any laser of any power, just not to buy one. (lol)
A key lock is useful if you have other family members you don't want activating the laser or similar scenarios.

Brighter beams are definitely noticeable.

Those are decent glasses. They will block 190-540nm and 800-2000nm wavelengths ;)

Awesome! Great info. Thanks.

Good to know about the key lock ... it'll make it look "cooler" if anything, lol...

I was fascinated by lasers as a kid -- in the 80's. So when I was nine...I used an encyclopedia to research how they worked, and what *exactly* made a laser a L.A.S.E.R.....

So I designed my own (I mean I made a crude drawing)) I turned it in as an art project (4th grade) ... It got an "A for *Effort*" until one of the science teachers was astonished at what was in theory, a functional l.a.s.e.r. ..

it was just a ruby rod with two mirrors on the ends. One just translucent enough for light to (eventually) escape. Then I just drew a coiled xenon strobe light around the rod and enclosed it, lol. No lenses, no power supply, or anything else... I didn't even know if it would work, and still don't lol, I just know it was enough to draw the attention of an adult. #1983 #notbad #kid

What is your (customer) experience like(?) Have you personally dealt w/JL or Sanwu?

Can you direct me to a *good* beginner DIY link?

Thanks, big time(!)

That's incredible what you did in 4th grade. That teacher must have been amazed! Very cool.

I haven't purchased from JL or Sanwu personally yet, but I've dealt with Podo from Sanwu and have read through countless posts about both Sanwu and Jet Lasers.

Here is an intro into DIY and it's anatomy, known literally as the "I want to build a laser thread": https://laserpointerforums.com/threads/the-i-want-to-build-a-laser-thread.52972/

And here's a guide focused on the host: https://laserpointerforums.com/threads/what-is-what-basic-tutorial-for-beginners.78120/

I also know Survival Lasers offers great kits which just need a diode or other simple part. Also Jayrob is a guy here who offers DIY kits.

Other than that, you just have to learn and eventually choose what you want to do.

I'm just asking if anyone would like to group buy to pay less shipping because 38 dollars for shipping is quite expensive
Gray will only charge $38 for many lasers together.
'
''dollars for shipping is quite expensive.''

Yeah until the delivery (cheaper) never arrives or has damage or worse-- when that happens you will see why JL asks $38--it is NOT for quick shipping --it is for never having your boxes opened or worse. I have gotten more than 120 JLs in 10 group buys w/o any problems but yes-- quick shipping too.

Oddly Gray asks us to use USPS/ China EMS express for items going back to China,,,

btw the many long forms needed to ship to China is a huge PITA.

It is easy to make an error on some parts-- like value etc.
Like-- what is the item?-- I put 'LED lights for repair' and value around 9 or 10 USD. I do not mention lasers,
OR li-ion batts EVER.
