I have a Thor H2 from laser pointer stores and mine measured 1648 mW on high power. Got mine for the cost of shipping to do a review before they were released for sale. Mine also measured 444.9nm on low power. That is very close to 445nm. They tend to drift up in wavelength the harder they are driven.

Yep, that appears to be the Thor H2 445nm 1.6W version

I'd be happy to measure them for you, but since you are in the UK it wouldn't be practical. I could also give you the exact wavelength of both.

That’s odd, the Tracer was $280 last time I looked. Just took a look again and it has jumped up to $350.

Anyway, I’m only thinking about it. Will look at my options when I take the plunge.

That was my first ever back door deal on ebay, so I’m chuffed it has turned out ok.
And it is Hallowing... We must have a bit of suspense!

Hi All:

I bought a Dual Power 445 nm ThorH laser from LPS in August that was rated at 1 W & 3 W. I’ve measured its Low Power at 1,370 mW and High Power at 2,570 mW several times with my LaserBee AX3 LPM. It is very bright and performs well. It also is threaded for the Sanwu 3X Optical Expander, which greatly increases its range. Please remember that you ALWAYS MUST wear safety glasses for any laser with 1 W of optical power! Have fun and be safe. Take Care.

This is really not unusual with the Chinese resellers. I have seen this happen many times. It happens on eBay a lot too with the Chinese. It's all about the most you can get. Also they can later put it back and claim a $70.00 reduction in price.

Yeah, that’s what I figured. I’ve been making some numbers, and it looks like I will be better off buying locally. Will a CO2 unit work with diode lasers too?
There’s a few for around £250 that I’ve been looking at.

That's not a laser. It is a power meter for CO2 lasers. These are deep IR lasers and , as such, the optics are made from NaCl, ZnSe, and other fairly nontraditional visible laser optics.

Yes, sorry I forgot to mention that it is a LPM, what I like to know (please forgive my ignorance) is if it will work with visible diode lasers.

No the CO2 power meters are designed for higher powers and not high accuracy in sub watt measurements, also the wavelength centers at 10.2um/10200nm, the meter measures the thermal change of a metal puck coated in a tough burn resistant coating over time to determine the energy imparted so the puck in that CO2 meter is much too large for testing 1w or 3w visible wavelength lasers, you need a meter made for a lower power range, the coated puck has thermal transducers on the back side but another way is to use a direct meter similar to a solar cell where the measurement is not of thermal change over time but a direct measurement.

Have you looked at these: I wish I had bought an A10 instead of the smaller head unit I have, the A10 has a nice target area but you should still defocus your beam so it's not all in one tiny spot on the thermopile, that's with any head.

One more thing, you don't want this pocket deal from China, it's not very accurate and won't bleed off heat very well for repeated testing, there have been some test on it and you will be a lot happier with an A10 which is accurate and much better quality.

Yes, I have been considering the LaserBee and Sanwu units. Alas, postage costs and import charges into the U.K. will put those in the $500+ range. I like to have a LPM that can measure up to 20 Watts but, I really don’t want to spend that much money just yet.

I've had four LPMs. The first was a Laserbee that could measure to 3.2 watts and the second was the Radiant X4 that measures to 3.7 watts. I have a professional meter and both styles of the Hyperion. The Hyperion, if you can get it, comes with data logging software and is very good for what it can do. I paid $250.00 for the 6 watt and the 20 watt sensors plus the hardware. My thoughts have always been to get what you can when you can. Something else will come along in time.
