Yeah, that's a crystal form of gypsum. It is very soft and to keep them in good condition you need to handle them carefully and store them well. The shape reminded me of some synthetic crystals.

I can see you are getting a lot of use out of that new laser. I always have my newest wavelength near at hand to just have it on as they tend to be my favorite wavelength at the time. Can't have too many beams shots. Just love them all.

Wow!
I'm jealous. This looks like a beautiful laser. If you ever get tired of it, I'll be happy to relieve you of your burden.
Congrats on the new acquisition.

Yes, in most of your photos it looks very orange. A couple looked a bit yellow, but I tend to believe that was the lighting causing that effect.

With photo's of monochromatic beams it's always a bit of 'what a camera makes of it'. This is unavoidable as such camera's are just not constructed for producing realistic monochromatic color rendering.

I find the best way to deal with it is often to actually photoshop the image to the point where it looks the same as it did to your eyes, which may require at least a bit bit of hue/saturation/brighness tweaking on the image.

I have had the same wavelength look like a different color depending on the lighting used to take the photo. So, I generally take a whole bunch of them and choose the best that depict the color most accurately.

Alex, I have been dealing with some medical issues, but nothing too serious. Had to go into the hospital to try to have an IVC filter removed. It didn't work. Also have been having to go to Lakewood more often than usual because of the "new" guidelines on lowering pain med doses. It is all politics. Since more people have been trying to get narcotic meds from physicians and more have died from OD, the sensible thing to do is to take them away from everyone which is what is happening now. Nothing I can do about it.

Well yeah, i suppose you could call the colour sort of 'pumpkin orange', though i'm not a big fan of naming colours really - just stating the wavelength is better and avoids confusion.

This isn't often a problem, though some vendors keep calling 405 nm 'blue' which it definitely is not. Then again they just had to name the intended device a bluray player, so yeah...

I think that is all marketing. It sounds a lot better than violet ray, or near UV ray. Though 405nm is not really near UV.

Finally my heatsink solution...

A bit beefy and ghetto looking but this head makes full use of it.

Before, the head would get uncomfortably warm after about a minute and a half. Now after 10 minutes:

And after 20:

After some playing around I settled on covering the bottom fins with duct tape since the fins weren't all equal height... so the air flow goes all the way across the head (which improved the initial thermals that I didn't snap a picture of)

So now... this head is finally done. I'll throw some more pics I took before I log out again...
