Some Aurora pictures from last night. They were pretty dim last night, hopefully we'll get a better show sometime soon and I can get some better pictures.

It's been quite silent over here too. Not too much auroras in this winter.. :yabbem:

Same here, all winter. :( Probably because we're reaching the end of the solar cycle, so the solar activity is very low. Hoping we get a couple good nights before winter is done though, there's still time! :D

On another note, the moonlight last night seemed to improve the pictures. Seeing as I have a lower end camera with no manual focus the extra light helps it focus on the landscape and by extension the auroras. Plus I quite like the look...

These aren't bad photos, diachi. I'd love to see an aurora like that where I am. Too many trees and such blocking my northern view from my porch. Even if I had a clear view, it is not something we typically see here in western Washington.

When I was in Hawaii last month, someone asked me where I was visiting from, when I told them they said cool, my best friend is going there next week to see the aurora. I had to tell her they aren't active most of the time, to have her friend google the activity predictions, probably won't see them. They had already purchased their tickets, thought they were there all the time in the winter months.

Thanks : D , Its a nice camera , though I would like a macro lens one day so will need a new body too

I like the way Panasonic CMOS is capturing blue wavelengths, they come out clean and not violet tinted like on many other branded cameras ..

For a long time I have wanted small M462 build with good battery capacity / runtime and yet small to fit my pocket.

Host body is from el Cheapo Nitecore EC4S China Clone, I think brand was Tan-Lu or something like that.. Host takes 2x 18650 Li-Ion's so it has plenty of runtime..

I'm gonna get flip lens cover for giving finishing touch for it (and keeping lens clean of course). :p

That's a good looking laser, AD!
With the temperatures that you've been having lately, you ought to have damn near unlimited runtime! :D

Thanks Bowtie, yeah you can hold your laser ON basically unlimited time in these temperatures, and batteries usually drains out first :D

I like that flattened style of host, I almost built something from a "Fenix TK35" light that looks a lot like that, but the initial cost from a name brand co. was too high; I hadn't seen any clones of that type until I saw yours. :yh:

That blue LED really makes the 'look' of this laser.

I was first thinking to make it into Nitecore host, but I just couldn't bare the idea for destroying quality just for "secondary" laser project..

EDIT
Just found the link for this host:

I really like that host. How difficult is it to wire for a laser driver and keep the illuminated switch functional?

Thanks Paul! Yeah, you won't see it often down your way, would take a pretty big solar storm to push them that far south.
