If I had agreed to let him sell our LaserBee
LPM products on his website as he asked
before I knew about this 15W LPM... I would
have pulled them all and torn up any agreements
when I saw his non business like responses to
the Review on this thread.

Actually mine still works after I supplied
regulated 5V to the switch. I'm waiting
for the Li-Po Charge PCBs I bought on
eBay before I change out the defective
one.

I think the point that a sensor advertised as 10 watts should be able to hadle 10 watts from a typical consumer laser pointed at infinity is still valid.

You could call a 1 watt LPM a 100 one with just the little requirement that the user puts a OD2 filter betweem that can handle 99 watts dissipation without burning up - good luck finding one of those that can handle that much power in a few square mm without instantly shattering or catching on fire.

As for the design aspect: I think something like the Astralist product should be considered a system you could design your own enclosure for, and this may be true for the laserbee as well.

You could put these things into a big box with a hole saying 'shine laser here'. Any end user could do that, but some may prefer the sensor to be away from the display by some distance for all kinds of practical reasons... even the Ophir heads are connected by a lead to the readout instrument, probably because of customer demand.

Ophir and similar heads are connected to the rest of the unit with a cable to get the head away from any possible sources of heat and to allow for the best possible cooling.

In my absence, I missed out on everything concerning this LPM and its offering for sale. I have 4 LPMs, so I would not be tempted to buy this one. That said, it is often members who have none that may be drawn to purchase an inexpensive one. It's too bad that the specs for this meter don't pass muster and will leave the few members who purchase them to unknowingly get erroneous measurements. I would hope that laserpointerstore.com would repair or, at least reconsider selling these as an erroneous reading is in some ways worse than no reading at all.

Glad to have you back buddy, hope your recoup period will be short and painless . Ok about the Mini Jerry and i purchased one each. Well it was decided to test them, you know the outcome. Buy testing the mini and to me it was with every penny only because jerry and I saved the forum members some cash. And not to flush 80.00 bucks were they can use it for a build or the hobby. Jerry put this mini on a long chain behind a pickup truck and the results don't lie. Well this thread save folks some $$$. That why LPF members look out for one another and thats why this forum is awesome and flourishes . Glad your back..

Thanks, Rich. Though I did post to your sales thread yesterday and was able to rep you a couple days ago. It is slow going because they did far more than they told me they were going to do, so I am in pain all the time and my exercise routine is difficult, to say the least. I'm hoping to be back enough to do some work that is piling up in the next couple of weeks. Just have to play it by ear for now. Thanks for the kind words. Always appreciated. :yh:

Any time get better pal , I emailed Tommy maybe he would send me another V2 mini to compensate but thats wishful thinking. If he did send Jerry and i a V2reworked mini it wouldn't hurt him at all .But i don't see that anytime soon.

I'm sorry you are out $80 for a meter that won't work. That's a real shame. If the TEC has a glossy paint coating, it probably would never be accurate across the VIS spectrum. Hopefully you saved many newcomers from wasting their money on a meter they wouldn't even know is so far off.

Like i said at least other members didn't have to go through the disappointment, for me it was a great thread to warn folks about the possibility of being aware to buying items that are faulty in many ways.. Now if he solved the coating issue it wouldn't be bad for the lower power diodes. Maybe someone else will come up with a compact LPM that has been tested . Theres a Canadian member here that might fit the bill !! And im sure it would go over in a big way.

Well... to be honest... it actually does work
but not at the claimed specs it's being sold
for.
The biggest problem is the non-broadband coating
and the enclosed sensor on that enclosed tiny
heatsink.

Looking into it... problem is the Broadband Thermopile
Sensor needs to be outside the enclosure and be able
to handle any claimed Max Power without damage.
And be affordable.. Even if the accuracy is only 10%.

The designer thought they were being innovative putting the thermopile inside the box when they were causing the device to be very limited instead. Oops!

Hi Jerry,
Even if a mini was designed at only 7+ range that would be plenty .And if the package was a little larger heat sinking would be greater and shouldn't effect the over all size. If i had the equipment and the ability i would jump all over this.
