That’s awsome Andrew, Can you try the 800mw 532 next When you have time maybe on a tripod, Also can you post a pic of your drone!

I'd fix the beam on a tripod so it doesn't move and then fly the drone into the center of the beam, might work better, but moving it around to see how difficult it can be to spot a target at that distance interesting too.

If you want to do tests with lasers over such distances i'd suggest setting up something using tripods on mountain sides.

Thanks Ben and Chris, yes I was planning to do exactly that.
When I took this video I didn't have a laser stand and I wanted to try hitting it manually like this to see how hard it was to get a strike.
Since then I've built my laser stand (Bob gave me the idea from his build).
So I'm planning to try this again like you say and fly into the path of the beams.
Stay tuned.

I plan to do just that Billy, on the above tripod and I can't wait to see that awesome beam buddy.
The drone I used for this video is the DJI Phantom 3 Pro.
Here it is, as you can see I'm very patriotic. :D

Here's the whole setup with controller and case.
This one can travel 5km (3 miles) away but I've only had the guts to go half that.

My new one is the DJI Mavic Pro and it's the one I've been using to take the latest videos at the beach and at night.
It's gorgeous, it folds up in my hand and is quieter.
It can go 7km (4.3 miles) away and has more features.

Have a look at my other drone videos:

Also I'll be posting a new night flight video soon so keep an eye out for it.

Thanks Bob, yeah I love this vid too.
And that's a great idea, I'll try that with the 7W and the 1.3W when I get a chance.

I wanted to express my thanks for your willing to undertake such a strategically demanding and complex video. If any assistance is need please do not fail to ask. I am thinking it will be a very instructive and informative video. Am looking forward to seeing it and sharing it with the patrons of the Northern Museum.

To the Curator of the Northern Museum, message as follows;

I wanted to express my thanks for your willingness to offer any assistance for this undertaking.
The Southern Museum wishes to ask the Northern Museum for the donation of one of it's Rick Trent 13W dual beam 445nm unit.
I am thinking it will be a very instructive and informative video if I was to use this unit as a bench mark to which all other units are compared.
Am looking forward to seeing it and sharing it with the patrons of the Southern Museum.

Best wishes

From Curator of the Southern Museum; RB.

Flying the drone into a steady beam from a tripod mounted laser could be more practical than aiming a laser at a hovering drone indeed. If you have live visual feedback from the drone it' be easy to find a place where it get hit full on all the time.

It could also make a great demonstration on how bright laser look from far distances: if you get two lasers of similar power and color, but one multimode and one single mode, you can really show how much brighter that single mode i a mile away (provided you can fly into the much narrower exposed area).

I like the MM to SM comparison idea, will need to alternate which one is on when doing so, or they might appear as one.

Human race, that pretty much closes the door.

Not true Alaskan; as per H&S, he just needs to comply.

Can it return to home if control signal is lost?

That's too funny Bob, thanks for the laugh.

Yep, it automatically returns to the take-off (home) point if it looses contact, at a pre determined altitude to avoid obstacles.
It also has sensors all around to detect obstacles and go around/over them.
It also calculates the remaining battery power and will initiate a return if the power is close to the minimum of what it needs to return home.
In all the while, it has anywhere between 12 and 17 satellite connections for GPS location.
It tells me on the screen how many it's connected to.
Just amazing technology.

The DJI products with their intelligent flight
capabilities are the higher end of the Drone
market.

I built about 1/2 dozen drones using the DJI
NAZA V2 and NAZA Lite flight controllers. They
also do return to home on radio Signal loss or
by Transmitter command. RC Range of those is
only about 1000-1500 meters..

Just pulled the trigger on a Mavic Pro with
the Combo Pack. Was on special at BangGood
of all places with a discount coupon.

What did your Mavic Pro set you back and what
screen are you using Andrew..

Awsome toy a lot of fun, and it just hovers in one spot with awsome accuracy, I might have to get one but $1500 isn’t cheap!

Your welcome;

Awesome Jerry, you're going to love it.
I got mine for around $1600AUD but the price has come down a fraction.
I was using my iPhone 6S at the beach but I can squeeze in my iPad mini4 if I stretch the arms of the controller out.
This gives me better views.
Also, I think you mentioned you have the DJI Goggles Jerry?
They work a treat with the Mavic and they're wireless too so no need for a USB/HDMI cable link to the controller
Only the Mavic can hook up wirelessly to the Goggles. :D

Awsome toy a lot of fun, and it just hovers in one spot with awsome accuracy, I might have to get one but $1500 isn’t cheap!

One night I was flying in the back yard at 100m altitude above my house and we had a stranger pull in to our driveway to ask for directions.
I was able to put the controller down while I gave him assistance and the drone just hovered up there all that time.
I knew it would land itself if the battery went low so I took my time.
When he left, I picked up the controller and brought it down for a landing.
If he was an axe murderer he would have been on video.

That does sound like some pretty amazing technology. Enjoy :)

It's simply stunning and sooooo addictive Bob.
Like, I needed another hobby, huh .....
