Very nice build RA, that's exactly what I've had in mind for this round of diodes as well.

Clean build. I haven't built a pen like that yet. Thanks for sharing.

Edit: See Encap's post.
I really wish they'd come back. They've been sold out for about a year now, and I can't find any other suppliers of comparable ones. I've had two modules ready for pen builds since then, but Laser66 listed that they were out a day before I was going to order.

Laser 66 has the pen hosts assemblies in stock again;

They say: "Great News: (July 2017)
Finally, we had enough demand to get All Chrome units BACK IN STOCK.
This Includes One Hole and Two Hole Devices"

Certainly looks like a very nice build to me - finished laser looks great.

Usually i don't care much for looks on lasers, but this one certainly looks good, and seems to be of appropriate size for the output power as well.

Having a relatively low power, single mode, laser in there makes it just that much more useful - reckon thermal design is good enough for it to run continously?

They are relatively low power, but not single mode. Funny thing is that Singlemode was the one who pointed this out.

Nice pen!! Someday I'll put use to the black n gold pen leadlight host I have. That's to say if I can resurrect the PCB switch board with a new switch and it work... what a nice color too!! Enjoy

Love those hosts! Although, I prefer the matte black over the chrome. Nice build! :D

Hi, everyone, and thanks for the kind comments and for the offers for the focus adapter. I'll give one or some of you a message sometime in the near future.

@paul: It does run a little warm but not too warm at this current - definitely within the range I'd consider acceptable for [practically] unlimited use.
Edit: Yeah, I do get the rectangular artifact. It's funny that it's much more distinct than with the 405 and 445nm diodes I've seen. I don't mind, though. I'm not a fan of acrylic lenses. They seem to attract more dust and scratch easily when trying to clean them. That would be a problem for a laser that may spend a lot of time in my pocket.

@3D: Yeah, it's not a very special host but it has always been one of my favorites and it is definitely one I use most often. I've built powerful lasers into bigger, more unique hosts in the past but I find that low power momentary pointers are much more fun. Part of it is the portability and part of it is the safety. The larger flashlight-styled hosts usually feature constant-on/off clicky switches - I don't find that I really want 4W of laser blasting out into the sky for more than seconds at a time. For me the host is functional and attractive enough.
You did remind me that I have a drawing of a host I designed several years ago. I think I'll dig it back up and post it here for a talented machinist to tackle - maybe you'll approve of that one. ;)

....: Post Grinding :....

I meant to have seen millions of these pen-shaped mini pointers.
I did not refer to the diode (new green output), all that!

Waiting to see the project you have made, mentioned by you in response ...
I wish you the best wishes for a good success!

We've all seen millions of these pen shaped pointers, but those are Chinese mass produced products, not custom built pointers... The form factor doesn't make a difference, it's a nice build.

I clarified why I had written that way in the 1st post! all this Curt

What's in Electric Elephants?
There are still sections in which you do not give me access!
What does that mean ???

That is because you are not a veteran of LPF..
It requires certain criteria to become an LPF
veteran and you do not yet qualify.

All right, do not heat up so much .... I did just one question!

Who cares what you say or do not tell!

So much for good or for bad if you have to talk or "shoot" do it the same

Outside or inside certain sections!
