So, they are (maybe - my latest experience was Laserdock autumn last year?) not as great as other top companies, but there is no reason to say they are bad.

Oh, ahaha I just realised I'm talking to a wicked lasers fan! I don't actually own any of their products, and I guess I jumped to conclusions about them being bad.

Not perfect, not as top companies in portable industry, but definitely not bad. And I just downloaded their LaserOS for Laserdock and it is awesome. They did great job on it a lot of features. I'm looking forward when I'll try it with my projector.

Welcome Kermit101, to the forum, it's a great place to learn about laser. Like it has been said, it can be habit forming, so watch your bank account. Once you start building you just can't stop, but so satisfying. Enjoy and be safe.

I'm no battery expert, but ebay listings for "9000mAh 18650" rechargeable batteries are just utter b**locks.

I would think anything by Samsung would be good. Panasonic, Nitecore, Efest or any other name brand battery should be just fine.

I've never bought from that particular seller I generally buy from https://www.imrbatteries.com/ but I'm sure both would be fine.

You might also want to be aware of the protection circuit put in many Li-ion batteries to keep them from over discharging too. The ones that don't have these circuits are usually flat on the positive end to keep them from being used in series, though people do anyway by adding small magnets to their tops. There are reasons for buying both of these types of batteries and you should make yourself aware of those reasons.

Paul, i think the Samsung batteries I'm purchasing are NOT discharge protected (flat ended as you said). The sanwu laser pointer that needs them only requires one 18650, so i shouldn't need to use both in circuit.

Would a discharge damage the circuitry of my laser pen?

No, but, the chemistry of these different batteries have their pros and cons. The higher discharge batteries have a higher internal dynamic resistance than lower discharge batteries do. There is no need to buy unprotected cells unless you are using them for high current uses such as RC cars and the like.

So a lower internal resistance is good for non intensive devices?
