Everything a trade off!

yes, as is most eveything when it comes down to it.

There are certianly a surprising number of papers by people who have tackled the problem in several different ways, out there.

If you have a design A and B that will work in mind pretty much ready to roll--you can jump on parts when they become available on secondary market --only having to buy new maybe a few critical pieces while doing something a bit more common and easier along the way.

$11,000 just for the head? No power measurements or any sorts of tests? No thanks ... should be doing a few watts, a picture running at full power would be a good start.

I wrote him and said the same thing, good luck selling that without any tests indicating power and beam quality.

Encap, I'm going to be searching for the parts needed, optics and crystals difficult to find unless new. I better get off of this topic in this thread, already gone too far.

Thanks, Chris for the opinion on a totally unrelated project. The prices some eBay sellers come up with are insane sometimes. I can't see anyone spending $11,000 for a head with no beam specs, power, etc. Maybe after a few weeks you can take another run at him about this yellow head.

K107 4J pulsed pumping chamber is sold. All other items are stil on sale. Also I'd like to sell mu JDSU 2213 air-cooled 150 mW multiline Argon laser. Is anyone interested in it? It is #7 in my laser collection thread.

The concern I have is if that YAG rod is damaged, I doubt I could afford to replace it.

I know of one other laser parts seller in Ukraine listing his stuff as being shipped from Sweden, probably sell faster if people see a listing from a more developed country, Ukraine with its reputation for hackers and internet rip off artists might be affecting the ability for some sellers on ebay to do business, so I expect that is why the listing now says Switzerland. No issue with me buying from Ukraine, I have an apartment there now :p

One other thing about this laser is when I look at the photo's the rod appears to have some kind of corrosion on it, or at least the white appearing material near the metal ends on the rod looks like corrosion, that is probably another reason it isn't selling. Maybe it isn't corrosion, but without higher resolution photo's, I just can't see.

This pumping chamber was in action here https://youtu.be/xsPtM0ok_hU at 50% of power, if anyone wants to know. If anyone wants it a can add for free a set of mirrors both HR and T=20% OC but I don't garantee the maximum 130W power with them.

I hope no offence with my last post, I love the people of Ukraine, my son in law lives there and I will retire there. That is an awesome video of the YAG working, what was it you were doing, holding a focus lens? Looked scary to me to hold like that.

Sorry to kinda derail this thread again, maybe we need to start a DPSS general thread.

Anyway, Alaskan, if you want 589nm out of this it's going to be a real challenge. Since it's going to be operated in a pulsed mode, you want an NLO crystal with a large phase-matching bandwidth. Also, you really want a folded cavity, since Nd:YAG does absorb visible light, especially in the 580-600nm region.

Nd:YAG also has two dominant transitions from the upper laser level to the 4I(13/2) manifold, 1319nm and 1338nm, as opposed to the 4F(3/2) -> 4I(11/2) transition for 1064nm, which is the only one (actually there are more (12?) but the 1064/1062 transitions are extremely dominant). 1319nm is only about 1/3 as prominent as 1064nm, so you will need to design a resonator that suppresses 1064nm (but doesn't eliminate it), and promotes 1319nm to a level where they are equal. This is incredibly hard to do, as 1064nm will quickly begin to dominate if given the opportunity. You also can't use cheaper broadband optics, because you need to completely suppress 1338nm (though this could also be done with an etalon, it would eliminate 1064nm).

There is a LOT more to factor into consideration as well, but if you're up to the challenge, I'm pretty sure everyone here would love to see a high powered 589nm.
