I have a new name for this "beast" thanks to dden4012 ! :thanks: Thor's Hammer ! lol I like it !

Remember to use paste between the heatsink and the module /CPU paste
Yep I have some sitting right have while I wait for the aluminum tube to clear customs.....

I remember screwing around with a nubm44 box build I got from one of the members, and the beam burnt me straight through my finger nail. That was certainly a unique type of pain! I had my goggles on so the output wasn't as apparent that the beam was going straight into my nail
Did you switch it on accidentally and had the accident or was it already on and you accidentally got in front of the beam ?

I had a 44 build on a workbench in my basement and I reached down to adjust something and...well you know how a 100mw laser won't matter if it hits your t-shirt for a second or two, well with 7 watts it matters.

I felt a sharp pinch and jumped out of the way looking down to see a burning 1 inch wide hole in my t-shirt and it was growing fast.

I patted it out quickly and felt really stupid, but at the same time I was smiling inside thinking that this sucker has some bite.

Everyone makes mistakes, that's why we wear the safety glasses, there have been times when I said to myself " DAM" I'm glad I always wear these glasses.

Red, I can certainly relate to that, I accidently stepped in front of my ~3W 532nm, and didn't realize it untill I smelled something burning and felt a sharp sting on my leg.

It can happen in a instant, good people doing nothing wrong simply overlook something or make a misjudgment such as Aliens trash bag, it's amazing how fast dry tinder can go up, add in some wind and it's real fast, and once you have a sizeable source of heat it's self sustaining.

In the winter time when the ground is frozen I can cut little branches with my 44 and nothing around it will ever catch, but in the fall when everything is dry and it's windy, then what's usually not an issue can become a rapidly growing fire, we must be on guard and prepared at all times, and those little habits such as treating every laser like a loaded gun will save you when something unexpected happens, such as turning to do whatever and bumping a tail switch.

It's never a big deal until it is, so get into the habit of safe habits and a small unexpected event will be only a small reminder and not a life changing disaster.

The old saying is familiarity breeds contempt and it's true, I would rather hear everyone talk about safety like broken records than to read about how someone accidentally blinded someone, we don't yet have the ability to fix what we can easily break so we have to be extra careful.

Related story, I was working on a van in our yard that possibly got hit by lightning, wanting to see if it was getting gas and/or spark I was squirting gas with a spray bottle into the intake pipe past the mass airflow sensor, my dad had insisted we bring the garden hose over before we started diagnosing,
well it hiccupped past an intake valve and lit the gas bottle in my hand, as an instinct I slung it away from myself and at that moment it broke at the neck and spewed gas everywhere, the hose was right there and I put my hand, the wiring harness and lastly the grass out.

If not for dad's safety precaution that van would have burned to the ground, because once modern cars catch they go like mad.

We wired in a patch where it burned in mere seconds and found the missing ground to the fuel injection, maybe a rat chewed it, who knows, but taking a moment to stretch out the water hose was the difference between an oops and a total loss.

Yep can't state enough how dangerous the NUBM44 is. There is a reason why many experienced members fear it. I burnt a section of my LPM sensor yesterday whilst it went up to 7010mW. I've burnt myself with a M140 before. Like being poked by a hot needle. I seriously would not want any part of that 7W beam hitting me. I'm glad everyone escaped without consequences from their mistakes. This confirms that even the experienced can make dangerous mistakes, imagine what mistakes can be made my those with no clue.
Accutronitis, good job with your build. Remain cautious and safe.

Thanks and I will, With this switch there will be no turning it on by mistake, I've been sitting on this switch for years and I always wanted to use it with something but I could never find the right project to use it on BUT this monster laser is perfect for that type of safety switch and it fit perfectly after a bit of trimming, That switch is my fav thing on this laser because it really gives it a dangerous feel like arming a blasting detonator just before the count down !

Well I just found out accidents DO happen with lasers !

just A few hours ago as I'm sitting in my chair and holding my Thor M II 2 watt laser in my hand which incidentally has a single push button on/off switch, I was watching something boring and I started nodding off and I guess I pushed the button on the laser and 5 seconds later when I snapped back awake I noticed my laser was on and was pointing at my TV !!!

Sooooo longer story short this happened !

Yep that is permanent damage to the Vizio TV screen ! And the sound you might hear is me kicking myself in the butt !!!

Oooch, that is an expensive lesson. Does the tv still work and just bad in the burn areas?

Yea you might have to ground yourself now :)

Ya it still works fine, I took a black sharpy and touched up those bright spots and it's much better for watching movies or TV but now there are some black spots on a white computer document and the like......

Pretty dang careless of me !

That's good, we all learn, seems to be the hard way sometimes. Had a few oooops's myself. Glad your ok and it was just something replaceable. Still like your "Thor's hammer". :)
