Lesson learned. Two lessons actually:

- Always ensure the package has online delivery confirmation info.
- I'll do what I can to fix the problem, but after some point my time and stress level is worth more than some (unobtainable) money.


What do you mean by "online tracking" how is that different from online tracking information provided with USPS signature confirmation of delivery?

Note that this may have changed in subsequent years, but here is how it went:

I was trying to return a package with a defective product, so I went to the local USPS store in a grocery store to buy postage and send off the package. I knew that I needed some sort of tracking and/or proof that the package got delivered, and figured that the signature confirmation service would include that. So I ordered signature confirmation, as well as put some insurance on the package.

As it turned out, this did not imply that tracking or delivery confirmation would be posted online, only that I could ensure that the package was delivered for purposes of insurance or something like that. I guess the signature confirmation was more for me -- the sender -- to confirm that something got delivered, but not necessarily some public (online tracking) info.

I was pretty surprised by this because I figured that it wasn't a huge step to have the package tracking information placed online. It may have been because the USPS store was not an actual post office, but really that shouldn't matter right? It's a package, via Priority Mail. Putting tracking info online is not hard. I looked online at the time and it seemed that online tracking was some "additional service" that only applied to postage sold via an online purchase or something. Also, because the post office had a signature, and the guy I sent it to wouldn't respond, there was no way to claim insurance (as if that were the real problem).

This was some years ago too, when online tracking for USPS was pretty half-baked and probably an added service rather than a standard feature of every package like it is today.

Today's USPS signature confirmation is pretty good eveything is available online, however it only goes as far as to show town, time delivered. and signature of person who signed for it. So that combined with receipt from Post Office showing the trackng number is all you get. It does not show actual address delivered to. You would need to use Express Mail for a receipt (which would not appear online)not online with the ship to name and address on it.

A bad experience with Ebay/PayPal is par for the course at some point for sellers it seems. Is hard to believe that with PP the signature of the buyers showing he received the package would not be accepted. Is like no level of proof would satisfy PP. If it's good enough for USPS Tracking and USPS Insurance it should be good enough for PP USPS being an industry standard.

There are dozens of stories where PP favors whatever they buyer says and sellers get burned, however. As you said sellers just get too stressed out by the process and give up much of the time.

I was promised the return of monies that were inavertantly distributed to the seller. After several months had passed, that didn't happen and was reported in feedback.

I don't understand your ongoing need to tell me why I deserved to lose that money. You made your point so move on!

And in other news, I would like to announce that I did receive a $80 payment from the seller today, with a promise of the balance next week.

I had given up all hope.

I'll jusy say I'm good once all is settled up.
I'm still unsure why I couldn't just get this handled the next day, and avoid all the grief? ( 55 emails so far!) 3 months is certianly better than never though....

Give me a break dude. We can add our comments to any thread we desire. If you don't want people posting in "your" thread don't post a thread in the first place.

Anyway, the reason why you "didn't get this handled the next day" is because you made the mistake of overpaying someone. So if you want to avoid all the grief, be more careful with what you type -- because this time you lucked out. Stop with acting so indignant and entitled, accept some responsibility, and learn from your mistakes.

thats good to hear some money came through,
I somehow think if you were not consistent with the 55 emails etc, then you might have not got anything back,

So if you went to mcdonalds or wherever and you paid with a 20 but got change for a ten without realizing it until later then you wouldn't drive back over there and ask for the rest of your change?

He's somewhat right you know. I don't know about you, but here in Germany you can't ask for your money as long as you leave the cashbox where you originally paid. That's a law. At least here.

Don't flatter yourself. You're the subject -- but not the owner -- of this thread, along with Soulero. I'm simply discussing the topic. We could be discussing this case involving someone else for all I care; you just happen to be involved in it.

Just because you start a thread, doesn't mean you own it (or get to control the life it takes on). If you don't want unsolicited feedback on a subject, don't start a discussion about that subject on a public forum ;)

You can't have your cake and eat it to. There's nothing more obnoxious and juvenile than members who start complaining that someone is giving them feedback they don't like. This usually happens in sales threads, where someone posts something for twice what it's worth, and then gets pissy when the forum points it out and "kills their sale" (proper interpretation: helps less informed members avoid getting taken advantage of). The same phenomena occasionally comes up outside of sales threads, as it has here, and it's just as inappropriate when it does.

If you post a thread, people will comment. Learn how to appropriately deal with criticism. That's a big part of growing up.

Well thanks "dad" but I'm pretty grown up at this late stage in life. Maybe your right. You guys go right ahead a bash away. I would have never posted in feedback had I realized that I would be ganged up on just for reporting the facts. I was told something long ago as a young man. That was to never tear someone down to make yourself look better. I don't think a lot of people were ever told that.

I won't post again. The know it all's can have this thread to themselves. I do thank those that were supportive and offered recommendations.
