Yeah, I never really bothered with IR when I was building my rainbow except for one 808nm. It did look pretty cool on camera:

Regarding a post from earlier, talking diodes, I'll go in increments of 5nm

400 (low WL 405)
405
410 (high WL 405)

415/420/425/430/435 will not be done at 5mW in a pen via 405/445 diodes. You'll need sample diodes

440 (low WL 445 - possible for older diode)
445
450
455 (high WL 450 - likely coming from a newer diode)

460/465/470/475/480/485/490/495/500/505 Sample diode needed

510 (low WL 520)
515
520
525

530/535/540/545/550/555/560/565/570/575/580/585/590/595/600/605/610/615/620/625 Sample diode needed, if even existing at all.

630-690 readily available, no need to increment

If only one day I could own a 604nm 5mW in a pen host it would complete my rainbow for sure :san:

Guess I will do with what we currently have as said before :)

My logical next steps would be 650nm, then 405nm, 445nm, 520nm, 685nm, then 589nm and/or 593nm, then 561nm.

Are more of you guys interested in the GLP-561nm? I can check prices with CNI and we might get a good GB price on them.

I am definitely interested in 561nm!

But then again...im broke...:(

Edit: Counting down the hours until I go to the UPS facility to pick-up the Aquarius. Finding it very hard to sleep :p

IR isn't as invisible "as it should be". Most people can see up to 808nm just fine, but 5mW are going to look very dim. There have been reports of seeing up to ~1100nm (not sure of the exact value or even if it's true).

OTOH everything above 650nm looks very similar if you compensate the brightness. You can see the difference, but it has to be on the right surface and you have to be looking for it :p

@ZRaffleticket: I remember someone (Cyparagon maybe) saying he had a <440nm and a >410nm binned diode. Not sure of the power.
Edit: the PL520 datasheet lists a range of 515-530nm.

671nm is by far more visible than the 808nm I had.
Also the colors in this wavelength area are quite different. But I´ve only seen up to 808nm, haven´t gotten the oportunity to see a longer wavelength than that. But f.e. 685nm is a very nice wavelength. Cheap and definitely a good visible difference next to the 650-660nm we all know.

We all might have them, but we don´t know without the Spectro :)
Lazeerer got some very interesting findings since he got his Spectrometer. Maybe he gonna come up with these to the open forum the other day :)

Yes, lower wavelengths are far more visible but if you compensate for the difference (say, comparing a 30mW 685nm to a 3mW 650nm, which I have done - there's far less difference there than between 520nm/532nm) they will look almost the same. To me at least. Our seeing balls are all different models :p

The wavelengths you have at the moment are already nice, the more you anticipate your next buy the more you'll forget to enjoy your current one. I know it's nigh on impossible but instead of thinking about what to buy next, think about fun and creative things to do with your existing lasers.

This was the original objective of my collection, had to lower my expectations a bit after selling off all my lasers a few years ago. Gradually getting there again though. :D Below are all the wavelengths I could find in production pens. I believe all can be found in 5mW varieties. Not including engineering samples, experimental diodes, or limited/rare stuff. Only visible wavelengths. Not including wavelengths that are within the margin of error of another. (ie "445" could be 447, 444, etc...)

I think lazereer would be open to posting his findings if it didn't take a long time for him to post them :undecided:

The lowest I've heard a 445 from him was 440nm (on the mark)
I think the highest I've heard a 445 from him was 457nm

For 405's, low powers typically are 405nm, but higher powers hit the 410nm range nearly all the time. It's also possible to overheat the diode and push 415nm but not much past that "safely". Granted your pen might have a 60C operating temp at 415nm :p

I won't mention anything else lazereer has sitting around :shhh:

Awesome! That's not all that bad actually. I was expecting more for some reason. Will probably have to add this to my collection at some point. :D
