G'day,

Guess what i got in the mail yesterday!

You guessed it, the DRSSTC from Onetesla :D

Now i backed this project on kickstarter sometime ago and only just got the kit as i was in on the first round.

here a photo of the kit:

After going through the kit i found im missing 2x rectifier diodes. The guys at MIT already knew about this and will be sending me them soon.

The top load is also still under going final stages of completion as they aren't spinning them out on a lathe like every other toroid, but they are pressing them with a die which has been troublesome for the guys at MIT.

Anyway this will be my build thread when i start to put her together so watch this space!

In the mean time, you can take a look at my previous DRSSTC i built from EVR: http://laserpointerforums.com/f60/holiday-project-drsstc-d-78988-2.html

Cheers! Fiddy.

I stopped sitting on my hands and soldered up the interrupter board.

Its got midi input or you can use the PW and Frequency pots to generate sound.

It has a fiber optic transmitter that talks to the main board which is heaps better than the copper kind.

Also got my stamped toroid: (Vegemite wasn't included :D)

Such a nice kit! Cool. One of these days I will own a OneTesla.

Good work so far.

Man, I really want one. Considering buying one, but with shipping and VAT it'll cost close to $500.. Would you say that's worth it? What's the resale value of these things?

why so much Grix? i paid $229USD for mine shipped. You could sell a complete one for a bit, these will be pretty popular

They are 330$ on their website. Will have to figure out what type and where to get a variac for this.

fair enough, ive never bothered to bump the input voltage up.

I just wouldn't want to start out with 2' arcs. Dial it up once I know things are in working order.

I didn't know it had that! Helps to thoroughly look at the picture you liked I guess.

haha yeah, its the same with my microbrute, when you first light the coil, you've gotta have the Pulse width(power) pot on the minimum and frequency down low too and work your way up.

i have doubts of the IGBT's in the Onestesla system, they are a TO-247 package.

where the Microbrute tesla coil uses SOT-227 IGBT's which are ~3 times larger than the TO-247
