Feeler: Nichia high power 365nm LEDs

I used a table-top power supply at ~19V, along with a transistor circuit to limit the current to about 0.92A. It's a pain to power up, so I'll have to test it out again some other time when the power supply isn't in use.

Probably pretty decent. I'm still not sure what these are binned at, as I was getting different responses from LED Engin and Mouser on the labels and stuff.

Afaik you need <320nm (I can't remember the exact peak, somewhere around 280nm I think) to disinfect surfaces, and water absorbs that wavelength well, so you need to pass a thin thream through the light and use a circulator.

Shortwave UVC (Hg) lamp is what you'll be needing. Lots around here in Korea.
You can find these lamps at a water treatment shop for $3-5 each. They run in standard Fluorescent sockets.

Diodes running shortwave UV lower than 280nm are very expensive.

365nm is best for "black light" fluorescing. If you want to disinfect stuff, get yourself a quartz-glass germicidal fluorescent lamp, as they are much more efficient in generating 253.7nm UVC light.

To my great regret, I have never seen a shark in my life, although I'm diving in tropical waters almost exclusively, and more night dives than daytime dives.

Well, I think this thread needs an update. Nichia has brought down the prices to somewhat reasonable level, so I managed to order 3 pieces of NC4U133A. (Nichia doesn't allow customers to choose the flux/voltage bin though). My order will ship directly from Japan (the so called 'Bestway DDP' shipping, 3-4 weeks factory lead time), so probably no additional U.S. VAT to pay.

I also ordered meodex MCPCBs for these from ledmountingbases.com

Unfortunately I needed only a single NC4U133A, but had to spend additional $248 for the MOQ of 3

I bought two and then four NC4U133A in fall 2011 for 90.90 Euros per piece.

Note that you can always specify which bin you would like to have, there is no guarantee that you will get it however. But a chance. Speaking from my own experience.

That's easy, tell them to send money like in the attached image.
That way they will pay the Paypal fee themselves, which is only 1%, as opposed to commercial transactions, where it is around 3.8%.
