Now you're just being rude. And I thought this was a community based friendly open forum. You're the reason media looks down at us.

This thread should be closed.

The large increase of new members seem to be the only ones who post about how afraid they are.

Pleas close this thread now !

PM reasons.

Peace,
dave

yes i don't quite get the reasons myself. are you guys fearing the media might read this specific thread and turn it against us?
negative publicity from this thread alone?

now thats being shady.

don't delete this,
this is a specific thread discussing the legality of 445nm 1W> lasers. granted the name of the thread is misleading folks, but we're getting all kinds of opinions which might be helpful to anyone who's interested.

I don't need any help. Thank you

Peace,
dave

i was offering help? I was just stating an opinion.

Enough. Thank you

dave

we all have illegal lasers, most of which came from china, some you guys built yourselves.

I thought it was only illegal for the company importing it into the US.
Not illegal for me to possess the product once here in the US.
Another words, not illegal for the recipient.

@ Winstonsmith, welcome to the forum.

I believe you are right. I think it's the movement of such lasers that is illegal, namely importing or selling.

They aren't going to see a laser being pointed at stars and attack you and demand a mW reading of the laser. You'd just say you bought it before the "ban" a few years ago anyways. So yes, I believe what you said is accurate!

LOL, "a few years ago"...the applicable FDA laws haven't really changed much since the 1970s. So yeah, you bought your blue laser "before the ban", which was over a well over a decade before such a laser even existed. Any new "ban" would supercede this, of course.

Also, pointing at the stars falls into a whole new set of laws, including the FAA, in addition to the import/manufacture/entering-into-commerce laws of the FDA. That's also public display, which is another set of FDA laws, in addition to the import/manufacture/entering-into-commerce laws.

Finally, if you're purchasing from overseas and having it shipped to you, you'll need to read some more to see whether you are liable as an importer in that arrangement. It's not as simple as "well, they're the ones shipping it, I'm just receiving it, so it's all on them".

IIRC "smuggling" is illegal on BOTH ends ;)

I think you guys are blowing out of proportion.
Casio is trying to save face but they are not going to kill themselves, or its consumers.
I dont think they mind to much the hobbyist playing with their projectors they dont want large company's doing it on large scale.

Casio doesn't care what people use their products for so long as they can report quarterly profits to their share holders. This is how every corporation works. Has Casio even made a comment about these lasers? I think not.

They are untouched for the time being ;)

If you recall in 2009 ThePirateBay.org which was one of the largest torrent trackers on the internet ended with the 4 people running the site each getting sentenced to a year in jail and being hit with millions of dollars in fines they need to pay when they get out.

Um, that site is still alive and well. The guys who run it never served a sentence either.

You can "edit" your posts and you can multiquote more than one post from others. There is no need to post back-to-back

Can you link me to the story. Because I get a 404 trying to go to ThePirateBay.org and everything I see on wikipedia still says they got screwed. Can you give me the IP of the site you are connecting to?

Your ISP might be blocking access to that site.
