OK, mailman just left here about an hour ago and I got my 445nm Lens from AixiZ.

Here's what I found in testing:

Regular AixiZ Glass Lens: 597 mW

AixiZ Acrylic Lens: 623 mW

AixiZ 445nm Optimized 3 Element Glass Lens: 639mW

I'm posting a pic from about 8' showing the spot on the wall.

That seems strange, I think Jayrob reported a ~16% increase when going from the regular Aixiz glass to their 405 3-element lens. You're results only show a ~6.5% increase for the new 445 optomized lens.

maybe a link?

Youre not talking about the "full threaded" lens are you by chance... If so I read that they where 405nm lenses just better adapted to 445nm than what me have out now.

You are correct, these lenses now replace the 405nm lenses they used to sell.

There are now listed as AR coated for 400-455nm, these lenses just came out and I bought them directly from AixiZ and had to wait a few weeks while they waited for their shipment of these to arrive from overseas.

As for link, I alredy gave their site, but maybe yuor talking about ebay; so here is where they are on ebay too;

405nm glass lens for AixiZ 12X30mm laser module - eBay (item 380137309450 end time Aug-01-10 13:34:45 PDT)

Also someone remarked "plastic" Yes, but remember I said the Barrel was plastic, the Lens is Glass.

This is not good news...

They better not be in a plastic nut!

Also, the comparison I did with the old AixiZ 405 vs AixiZ acrylic, was a 7% improvement in power for 445 as shown in my lens comparison thread:
http://laserpointerforums.com/f65/445nm-a130-lens-comparisons-51456.html

So this new 445 coating is only about 2% better than acrylic??

Something is wrong with this picture...

Hopefully they made a mistake and just sent you AixiZ acrylic lenses or something.

Is this plastic nut longer than the AixiZ acrylic nut? Because the AixiZ 405 lenses were a 3 element design that needed an longer nut...

How round does the dot look like at say 20-30 feet. And if they are in a plastic nut can we just take the glass out and put it in a different one?

electron;

That is very disappointing to hear.

Only a 2% power increase over the cheap ~ 50 cent plastic lens.

Three glass elements detracts from power output.

The plastic threads are also a bad idea.

They will get sloppy very quickly, making focusing difficult.

Thanks for warning other LPF members.

What is the factory thinking ??

Ok I just got off the phone with Chuck from AixiZ because I have 100 of these lenses on order and I told him I can't have plastic because of what Larry mentioned about it getting sloppy, and also because I machine focus adapters for them and so forth...

He assured me that I'm getting 70 of my 100 shipped today and that they are in a metal nut.

He said that some of the early orders went out in a plastic nut...

I didn't get much more information out of him. He seemed busy. But he did assure me that they were metal...

I didn't get into the power comparison issue. But I will be testing them and posting my findings in my lens comparison thread in a couple of days...

OK here's some comparisons, top one is the Acrylic, middle is regular glass - metal barrel, bottom one is the new 445nm received today, glass - black plastic barrel.

It doesn't make sense that they would be less power than the old AixiZ 405 lenses. I think that maybe the plastic nut must have a smaller entry aperture than the metal nut or something like that...

This would explain it...

Can you measure the entry aperture? Right where the light needs to enter the lens from the diode side.

The brass nut has a 5.18mm entry aperture. (.204 inches)

Update to this: I received 4 of these and it just happened that the one I opened & used was plastic barrel, glass lens. However since I started this thread, I opened the other 3 and they are diffidently black metal barrel, you almost can't tell them apart. I asked AixiZ and they will swap out the plastic one for a metal one, no problem.

Repeating the test 3x and I get the same results, probably because the lens is the same, and the aperture is open on both sides, not closed up like on some of the older style Acrylics.

Looking at the aperture of the Acrylic and comparing it to the new 445nm lens, I would say to the naked eye the aperture on the Acrylic looks wider to me than the glass 445nm. I do have an micrometer, However I'm frankly chicken that I'll scratch them trying to get a precise measurement.

Update Measurement:
Ok I got a little brave and measured entry aperture @ 4.7mm
