I need one for my TV. I've been looking through reviews for 2 days now, and cant find what I need. Maybe one of you guys have what I'm looking for, or have an idea where to buy it.

OK, I need these features.

1. Has to go on the web for Netflix downloads, ect. Does not have to be wireless. I've seen a lot with Ethernet connections, but they wont stream movies.
2. Has to have a 1080p 24Mhz/24p option. My TV is 60Hrz and I've read that 24p is best for watching movies. What causes judder in most cases is the TVs processor trying to add frames. 24p is what the movie industry uses for encoding, so there will be no added frames.
3. I have a 5.1 surround sound system, so I need a player that can work with that. I've noticed all the new ones have the digital coax made for 7.1, not 5.1. Some do have analog connections, but I obviously want digital sound.
3. Has to be under $250

Any ideas, or help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. :yh:

You are correct, but not with all the features I want. I looked at ~30 players, and they all have at least some of the features, but not all. Basically I need an older high-end model. But finding one that is still for sale is the problem.

PS3... has all the features you could ever want in a blu-ray player AND plays games and can play external media (from network or storage) for $299. It is basically future-proof; at least as future-proof as any electronic item can be, anyway.

As for the home theater, ditch the old receiver and get a newer one that can handle 1080P HDMI with audio/video processing to upscale other inputs. Greatly simplifies your HT by not running individual video inputs to the TV and audio to the receiver, then having to change inputs on both just to switch between TV and the player.

The PS3 is a good player if you can get it for under your target price. It has optical digital output if that's suitable (fiber-optic, red LED style). I'm not sure about 24 FPS or not though, wouldn't your TV also need to support the same refresh rate for maximum smoothness?

Yeah it looks like I'll be getting a PS3.

From what I've read the TVs processor only comes into play with higher FPS. Its has to do more processing to bring the rate of 24Mhz up to 120-240Mhz TVs. My TV is 60Mhz so the processing is much lower. Less work for the TV, less drag. If the BD player has 120Mhz or up, the my TV will have to processing it down. It has to use the 3:2 pull down technique for processing, which is labor intensive for the processor. I would have gotten a 120Mhz TV but it was a $400+ difference in price. Plus begers cant be choosers.

Man WTF? I get a new TV, then I need a new BD player, then I need a new receiver. They really have you by the balls. PS 3 looks like a better alternative. For the price I get a game console, and the player, plus its does 5.1 with an optical cable. I'm going to have to deal with any shuttering issues. Might not be to bad.

Thank you Obama!!

TJ the ps3 would be my suggestion too... I can get you one under 200 dollars. The one I have I replaced the laser on it for a total of 160 bucks.

Ebay sells the disc read error ones. They sell for cheap.

I wont charge you for any work I would be doing. Just pay the shipping.

I just checked... replacement lasers are 49 bucks free shipping.

Great find!! Thank you.

@Jay. I want new in the box. If there is a problem I get fixed for free till the warranty runs out. Then if it breaks after I can always get a new sled installed.

Your Welcome

BTW, I think any Blu-ray player that has optical out, even if its for 7.1 and your receiver only does 5.1, will automatically decode for what your receiver will handle. You would have to double check me on that, I'm not totally sure, I'd just ask someone at your local Best Buy or something.

I think most Blu-Ray movies are in 7.1 audio so to get the "full-effect" you might want to consider upgrading your receiver. I've seen them on sale for under $200 but that all depends on your financial sitiuation (if you can't I understand, I don't even have a HD TV yet!!).

They also have pretty good sales on complete systems (Blu-Ray player, 7.1 receiver, and speakers). I'm not sure what your taste is. I know I'm kinda an audiophile so I like to piece my system together.

Good Luck!!!

Yeah I'm leaning that way, but had to put the idea in front of the GF for approval. I just saw she sent me links to 3 PS3 bundles, so its looking good.

Last time I played games was when PS1 came out. Then life got in the way and I never looked back. Believe or not I'm a guru when it comes to games.
