Cool Knife.

I've never liked Benchmade. To be honest they have very few knives that appeal to me. I'm really picky about how a knife should look and what materials it's made out of. Plus they're ridiculously overpriced. Even their cheaper knives are so expensive that you wouldn't want to use them. That's why I like Kershaw. You don't need to spend hundreds for a quality knife and they're build is worthy of collecting.

My Damascus Leek is a perfect knife IMO. It looks amazing, solid high precision construction, smooth mechanics, and best of all it's very affordable. Kershaw is #1 in my book, and always has been.

I love Benchmade :wave: and I find that the material & build quality are top-notch, but no matter, I'm not a shareholder and don't need to push them on anyone. I would however like to note that they have quite a diverse collection, when viewed over the years. That means they may have a knife to your liking but it may already be discontinued. My next BM will be Bob Lum's 741 Onslaught to beef up the "big folder" end of my collection. The onslaught has a 4 1/4" blade... :eg: Speaking of big folders, here's my latest +4" acquisition, Spyderco's Millie:





She's light but serious fare...

Yes....But not if your in the military. You can have stiletto's, automatic knives, front end opening knives, brass knuckles, throwing stars....ETC.

The U.S. is a big place. In Florida you can own just about anything where as in Cali it has to be a two-hand opener or a <2" auto, I believe. In other words, depending on the State you live in, YMMV.

Nice. Microtech Troodon? What did that set you back, like $300?

btw: switchblades are legal to own in all states, but illegal to carry (in public) in many states like Cali, Texas, New York, etc... Unless (as stated above) you work for the military or law enforcement.
Also, you can carry a switchblade legally in the states where carrying is "illegal" if you have only one arm.

Danish knife laws ban folders that can be opened with one hand only, so it does make kind of sense to waiver some restrictions for someone with one arm(hand) only.

Just got my Kershaw Breakout auto, and I love it. Quality is top-notch, and the blade is razor sharp out of the box. $75 shipped.

Traveller is pretty much right about anything goes in Florida. You can carry a folding knife as long as it is 4 inches or less. I have a concealed weapons permit so I can carry auto knives as well. In all honesty, I prefer manual opening knives since the auto knives tend to want to flip out of my hand. I can open a manual knife as fast as any auto with just the flick of my wrist (liner lock or Axis lock). I don't like the safeties for auto knives since the lock may engage accidentally and you need to open the knife quickly. I think the worst are the assisted opening knives. I just bought the Benchmade Subrosa which has the Nitrous assist. As soon as you open the knife a little, the blade snaps open. This is especially awkward since you use your thumb to push the blade open rather than gripping the knife. The Kershaw design is much better since you used your finger to "flip" the blade open.

While I have quite a few knives, I mainly carry my Benchmade 710. It is by far one of the best designs out there. I actually use my knife quite often for breaking down bozes and opening packages. I doubt I will ever carry some of my nicer benchmades. I guess that makes me a collector!

Wow man, you have a ton of knives! Nice ones, too. In MD the laws are extremely easy; any knife goes as long as it's not a switchblade, in which case you can carry one unconcealed. Blade length is not a problem.

Anyone ever used a CRKT My Tighe? I'm probably getting one soon.

That's an excellent collection of BMs you got there :beer: The Rift especially caught my eye as I just nabbed this limited edition:





But I'm 100% with you on assisted knives - I hate 'em. They're more dangerous to the user than any other opening mechanism. I'm also quite comfortable with thumb-assist, meaning I can open my knives just as fast as any auto. Except for maybe my Microtech OTF... even I have to admit that puppy's faaast!

You're living in Miami, then? So where thr heck do you get your knives??? I had to resort to Bass Pro shops because you have no knife stores and the gun shops carry very few knives... . My guess is you're ordering online like everyone else... . A real shame as I can walk in to no less than five excellent knife stores close by (down town). Lorenzi, my favorite, stocks almost everything including Benchmark, Microtech and heck, even Sebenzas!

There's nothing like walking into a knife store and being able to handle the knives before buying...

Yeah! It's really thin and light (2.6 ounces), yet somehow feels really sturdy at the same time. It's really great for EDC because you don't even know it's there. This is my first side auto, and I admit I like my OTF's action better. The only reason I don't carry those is because they need to be pretty big and boxy with the mechanism.

Wow, that is light... ! The closest I come to that is with my BM Osborne 943 (pictured above along with my OTF) and it weighs in at 2.9oz.

Yes it is, and one of my favorites, at that! It's the "gold" edition of the Benchmade Griptilian, with carbon fiber scales and M4 steel. Here's my review, in case you're interested

I didn't realize that was carbon fiber... very nice. The first thing I thought of when I saw it was snake skin. But wow, $400! It's nice, but I don't think I could bring myself to even use a knife that costs that much, haha.
