Sharp 490nm GH04850B2G 55mW Laser Diode

Datasheet

The micro-printing around the diode window is SB303B292, just like the one in this photo, Jordan. I have preliminary results and I have never been so happy to be proved wrong.

I tested the first five at varying currents from as low as 55 mA to 130 mA. So far what I think I'm seeing is the wavelength increases by ~1nm between these two currents, temperature being constant.

In order of wavelength the first five are:
487.2nm at 55 mA and 488.3nm at 130 mA
486.8nm at 55 mA
487..4nm at 70 mA
490.3nm at 120 mA
491.8nm at 100 mA

This is great news to me and I hope to all of you. :thanks:

Re: Sharp 495nm GH04850B2G 55mW Laser Diode

Hang on....does this mean Sharp have officially hit the 488nm mark. I see the product number GHO4850B2G from dtr.

And the other 495nm diodes product number was GH04955A2G !

A new diode!!!! :D

Re: Sharp 495nm GH04850B2G 55mW Laser Diode

This datasheet has an October release date (at least the one I have). Every supplier I'm in contact with as of yesterday says these aren't available. Though I did find somebody willing to bin low WL 495s for a little extra $$.

Edit:
I just got an email now... 830pm is an odd time for the Chinese to be online. I'll have some sent to Paul sometime soon. 487-492nm initial baseline.

I'd love more under 490 nm

Re: Sharp 495nm GH04850B2G 55mW Laser Diode

Agreed, some at less than 490nm would be great.

Re: Sharp 495nm GH04850B2G 55mW Laser Diode

The part number says GH04850B2G.......is that the correct data sheet, if so it looks like we have 487nm diodes.

It says typical 487nm doing 55mw @ 105ma and 6.0v so it could shift with more or less current but if they do on average 487nm that will be pretty awesome. :D

Re: Sharp 495nm GH04850B2G 55mW Laser Diode

I would be happy with around 490nm or less :p
I'm not too picky

Re: Sharp 495nm GH04850B2G 55mW Laser Diode

Looking at that again it's 6.0 volts @ 105ma for 487nm and 7.5v @ 135ma for 495nm.......so if that's the case I would rather have 45-50mw at the higher frequency of 487nm.

Is it possible people have been driving them too hard and getting a tad more power at a lower wavelength ?

----EDIT----

Fingers crossed :D

Anythings possible :D
But these new diodes have a different product number. So I'm guessing, a wild guess but an exciting guess, is that this new batch of GHO4850B2G diodes hits the 488nm target at/around typical current that sharp was rumored to be producing.

The first batch was GHO4950A2G, indicating a target of 495nm, or so is my guess

That's a product #, not batch. These are different diodes (though I'm feeling factory bins). The full datasheet makes a reference to the 495 part #s being an alternative option

Edit: the batch I have coming is the 495s. Another supplier got back to me on the 485s. Price point is 10x the cost of the 495s. Oof

They can keep them for 10x

Re: Sharp 495nm GH04850B2G 55mW Laser Diode

I have been pointing out a lot recently these suppliers when it comes to datasheets to them close is good enough or if I can't get close I will just make something up completely. There is the shipping container that has one lot number, another sticker on the box from Sharp that has another lot number, the data sheet has another lot number and none of them match the lot number on the diode can if I am understanding that that is the the lot number. So of all the documents that came with the batch there are four different lot numbers and yees the datasheet ws from october and I was told this is a batch Sharp just produced this month.

I would not cont on the data sheet and wait. Only testing will tell what we have.

They missed last pick up so really hope it is still on target for Friday but I am fearing at this point it will be monday.

Re: Sharp 495nm GH04850B2G 55mW Laser Diode

Jordan, those are the 485s right? Were those significantly more expensive or is the supplier I have contact with just fishing for $$$?

Re: Sharp 495nm GH04850B2G 55mW Laser Diode

Do you know what driver you might pair these with ? Possibly a boost drive ?

I have 501 and 501-D bodies so I can run 1 to 4 18350 cells, although going compact would be nice for this build.

Just thinking if it ends up needing 7.5v then 3 cells if buck or 1 cell if a boost driver, right?
