thinking of making a small portable laser, bought this flashlight form buyincoin .com and its got a pretty nice feel to it and i discovered something that surprised me about it. its made for a single AA battery but if you trim the spring in the tailcap im certain itll fit 2 x CR2s! :D

im thinking of building a high power IR laser :)

link for flashlight
i should mantion it only costs $1.30 ;)

got some pictures :)

Nice looking host.

Can you trim your pics to 800 x 600 pixels though. I can't see the whole thing on my screen and have to scroll sideways to read the text. Thanks.

No such thing as a green diode available to the hobbyist I'm afraid, only DPSS modules and they're everywhere. Check out the, "Reviews", and, "Companies", sections.

Your pics are still too big... The forum requests the 800 x 600 size so they display for everyone.

Well, I will admit that your host look a lot better. :)
Perhaps a green module can fit inside if you settle for just one CR2 battery, is could work as the green modules are able to run on 3V.

I'll look forward to nicely sized pics in your coming posts. Thanks. ;)

It may change in the future regards green diodes, (look at blue for example), but for now, DPSS is the only way for us. They have created them though... There's a post round here somewhere... Ah, here it is -

Not something we will be seeing in the near future in a pointer I feel, but eventually...

If you're looking just for another colour diode then there's 405nm bluray or 445nm blue. I would suggest bluray first but it depends on your experience and wallet.

Grow up.

Looks like a fun project. What kind of IR power output will you be shooting for? A burning beast perhaps.;)

I have so far refitted one of mine with a IR LED.
It looks cool at night on my webcam. :D

(I am itching to get my hands on a lathe again)
