Possible cheap host? $1.39 ebay

I have absolutely no freakin idea how you can make money selling this at that price. The material cost to produce it has to be more than a buck. It's China so I take it the labor is free on this one (Political Labor Camp), but still unless You make a penny each and sell 5 quadrillion.:wtf:

I think it might be a "loss leader" to drive customers to look at their other crap and buy other things that have a larger profit margin.

Maybe to get the shoe in the door, but still...usually the seller makes the money on shipping. Just can't figure the angle on this one.

I've got one, (thought about the host idea).. I don't think the clicky switch would handle much current, and the reflector, led, lens assembly... is pressed in from the battery side.(body is one piece)
Nice little flashlight for the price though :yh:

good to hear someone already has one and it's usable:) bought this one and another cheapo one, shipping doesnt combine, but both came to under $3. not bad to 2 crappy lights

Picked up two myself. What's 3 bucks. I can't imagine they are not loosing money on these. Even if they end up being crap.:toilet:

They are crap , I got one similar and the threads on the top section poped off after about 2 weeks, was a good little flashlight for the price tho !!!

Gonna order 5, for the money i mean what the hell!

check this out..

History:16,931 sold

Just a heads up though, watch out for import tax.

I'm ordering 2 at a time to see what happens.

I doubt its a proper luxeon, not for that money.

+1 rep for the OP for the link though :thanks:

I got something like it last week, the reflector end were drilled to slightly larger diameter than the battery end. I had to use a hammer and punch to get driver, led, and reflector out as the lens were glued in.
The driver got a small coil, a resistor, and a 3-legged thing, most likely a pulse generator to turn the whole thing into some kind of joule thief.

It was OK as a cheap flashlight, but as host I prefer something with a becel ring to keep the heatsink in place.

ETA: I bought 5 anyway, I am sure I can find a use for them at that price. :)

No, it's not a Luxeon, i had some in my shop, and ended gifting half of them to clients for Christmas, and the other half to parents and familiars ..... also, it's a half-watt diode, not a 3W like the auction say.

Good as mini-torch, anyway, for that price.

Also, as usual, they do not ship to Italy ..... i guess also they already meet our (in)famous "lost in transit through customs offices" for china packages problem ..... :p :D

I saw these when I was in China at an equivalent "dollar store", but they said that one in particular was $3usd. From what I saw, yes, it doesn't seem like it would make a good laser. The switch and cap are the nicest things about it, but the host is thin and lightweight and as mentioned, the body is one piece. That makes it much more annoying to build. As a flashlight, sure I guess it's cute, but then again, who here on lpf doesn't ALSO have dozens of flashlights as well?
