There were a lot of regional TV shows in the late 50s to early 60s. TV was often live and not recorded back then. I was in Kingston, MA and Bozo was a show that was live in Boston. You could get tickets to be in the audience back then, but I couldn't have gone as my parents weren't going to take me to Boston to see a local TV show being shot.

I'll bet that Super Car was a midwest TV show.

Hmmmm...Wiki sez...In 1962...Supercar was syndicated to 140 USA TV Stations. There a total of 39 episodes made. The animated puppet process is labeled..." Supermarionation " See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supercar_(TV_series)

Like I said...it is funny and campy !!!Check it out...for a good laugh....sober or not !!:san::san::san:

.....Supercar.....Supercar....Hahahahaha....now....try getting that jingle outa your head !!! You can not !!! Thank me later !!!:cryyy::cryyy::cryyy:

No, wiki says it was in one market in 1962 in New York. A year later the final season it was in 140 US TV stations. So, if you saw it in 1962, it was from the one station in New York where it played. Seems it was actually a BBC show that was tried out in the US in that one market in 1962. I never saw it in 1963, but it might have been on as by then I wasn't watching as much kids shows in the afternoons.

Well....Maybe I should put this in the " Laser Host " area.....But....this modification./ adaptation of the Sky Ray Host is slated for the Chartreuse Coruscation build....so...I suppose it best to leave it here.

Some may take the position that to adapt a host to this degree....is too much work...I disagree !! See the attached document. It is a step by step sequence of how to do it !! I have figured it all out for u !!! Not that difficult !!! I did mine just using a Drill Press and a Band Saw !!

IF you choose a Sky Ray four (4) 18650 cell host for a build, this procedure will be necessary...because, for now....everyone uses a Buck driver....and that needs a two (2) LiPo cell arrangement/8.4 VDC.

I went to the trouble of generating this instruction Sheet/Procedure....to really document my own work....so I can duplicate it for some future builds.:eg::eg:

Enjoy.

Looking good, Bob. Thanks for doing the heavy lifting on this. :yh:

Yea...I did get a bit carried away...….but...I wanted to take the " Mystery " outa the method to modify a Sky Ray Host....It is such a good looking host !!

Anyway....This post will be buried....in about 5 min....with all the justified excitement about the new yellow units !!! Yikes....just 10 nm too high !!….as I am going for a Yellow Green color !!

FYI...I asked that this thread be moved to the " Experimental " area !!

So...See the attached pics. The front section of the Sky Ray has been modified to accept a Born Pot and a high current Automotive type single throw/double pole rocker I/O switch.

Now comes the hard part....the combination and corrective optics !!:thinking::thinking:

OK...The final issue with adapting/modifying the Sky Ray host...is how do we attach the Host body....to the H-BE section of the Build ( The H-BE is where the LD's and Optics are placed)

I will be using a single 1/4 20 bolt. The bolt will be captured by a " Connector Plate " see the pics and drawing.

The Host stock Bezel ring captures the connector plate.....and the 1/4 20 bolt will fix the connector plate to the H-BE.

The drivers will also find a home on the face of the connector plate facing the host.

Simple....and it gives us a good heat sinked place for the drivers !! A two-fer !!

And we inch forward !!

Just to show how the SkyRay Host....mmm...."Docks" with the LD/Optics containing H-BE unit. See the attached pic. A single 1/4 20 Stainless Steel bolt will couple the two (2) sections.

This arrangement also gives us EZ access to fix and view all connections between the LiPo's==>Drivers==> operating controls and the LD feeds.

Finally, these details are provided to;

1) Document the build to reference my own future builds/projects
2) Someday, allow someone to follow my footsteps.

Hey....Perhaps.....someday....someone will follow ????
These builds....are not that complicated....just very demanding of accuracy and dedication !!:eg::eg:

That is really awesome, Bob. It does take a lot of dedication to tinker one of these to work as near perfection as possible. I am so glad you are here to lead the way on these types of builds. :D

Paul/RC....yes....I have and will continue to stretch the envelop !!

Sometimes...well....many times.....I feel....like a lone wolf....
It takes an excessive amount of time to design the build....and even more time to make it a reality !! Add to that the huge amount of time to document the build !!

I sincerely hope....someday....someone will copy one of my builds !!! I surly provide enough details. Maybe....it is seen as just toooo much work....make no mistake...it is a Shit boat of work !!

I wish I had more competition !!! There is one group...IIRC ....called " Tuned Cavity " that makes some stunning builds.....but....they are professional's....alas....I am only one....lone....er....ah..." Nut Job "

In closing....there have been several awesome builds here at LPF.....not so much in the last several years though.

You are the lone wolf for builds like this, that is certain. I'd like to join the club though.

Yea me too, we need a mill and a lathe to facilitate proper builds when aligning many optics, heck I would love to build some thread adjusted beam expanders, big ones, but all the mills of the size I want and tooling are going to cost many thousands, I don't want to buy a tiny hobby mill limited to small work, yes I can and have done work around solutions, but being able to design and machine would be a lot of fun, and expensive, even now I dream up way more than I do, way way more, It's great to see someone building from a plan, keep up the good work 777

AAaaaaaaa Ooooooooo he howls !!! I will !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For a two (2) color Combiner....I think....Maybe.....the CHC is close to a design that is a solid platform.

It is not that I do not long for Single Mode, 5 ~7W output....and in ALL colours.....but....maybe in another 10 years it will be a reality....until then......Higher Power Multi Mode LD's, Corrective Optics and Combining Optics are the "only game in town"

And yes....to do these type of builds, one needs a medium size End Mill and Lathe.
You also need to master CAD Design. And finally, have a basic understanding of optic...well...how to use them to some degree...Not....design them !!!!

Anyway....I have enough projects to stretch into 2025.....Lucky You !!:undecided::undecided::undecided::eg::eg::eg:

Thanx for the support...it goes a very long way !!!:bowdown::bowdown:

I had a friend that worked in a machine shop many years ago. They had lathes in there that were 12 feet long and weighed many tons. It was interesting to see what they were capable of back then. They could literally machine almost anything. This was 46 years ago. I imagine the tools they had cost many hundreds of thousands of dollars. I wasn't as interested in it then as I would be today. Back then I was going to college to study EE.

Paul....Yes....I want a larger Lathe....I have been dreaming of a new Palmgren 10 x 21 for several years now !! Sigh !!!

I would gladly go with a used lathe !!! If the ways are not worn too much !!....But....cannot seem to find one in South East Michigan !!!

Anybody have a line on one....Michigan, Ohio, Indiana....I will take a look....but....I want to check it out B4 I buy !!!

Anyway !!!!

Moving along on the CHC build. See attached pics !!! Just one step at a time !!

Just enjoying the ride !! Hmmm ??? shall I pop a battery meter in the host.....I have the room ????? Thinking !! It is not necessary....but.....nice eye candy !!!!
RBAstro.....what is the size of that Battery Meter in the Green Menace ???.... Looks about 20mm wide by 8mm tall ?????
BBB....Does it come in Green Yellow display ??? Hahahahaha !!! The Blue goes beautiful with the Brass Host !!!!

Hmmmm....Can I make the unit WiFi connected ????? Hahaha....The Japanese have a toilet....that is WIFI connected......What's NEXT !!!!! Good Grief !!!!

Well, your cyl lens holder looks very nice. That is also a nice piece of aluminum. Can't wait to see more finished product. :D
