You can get as much as 1.5A from 2x CR2s in my experience.

Silly question - how do you grab the battery (-) feed in these? The head threads are anodized, and the heatsink isn't picking up the case charge as a result.

the top of the host body pinches down againt the heatsink when you screw it down. If you scratch off the top poart of the body so that it's a metal contact when it's screwed down against the heatsink you'll get a connection no problem.

Got it (different approach, but it worked)

I just built one of these with a 1.66 A (at least that's what it's wired for) 1085 diy driver. Awesome build. Love it ;)

EDIT: Holy smokes Moh, I got this host to do over 1.5W :) I love this guy! Here's the driver approach I took:

Thermal pad, with IC thermal epoxied in place:

4x Parallel SMD 3 ohm resistors (easiest way to get 3W + in a small package)

And a ton of epoxy at the end, to keep everything in place.

Because of space issues, the protective cap needs to be moved to the diode itself. This is a solder job that requires very quick soldering, and very quick cooling (I like to toss a wet piece of fabric on the diode leads the second I've soldered each side of the cap, so that the bulk volume of solder doesn't retain heat any longer than necessary)

The final product - GETS HOT FAST!

LPMs at over 1,500 mW raw optical output.

i thought the pill also has a negative connection point...but i guess you opted to not use the pill...

either way great stuff.

P.S. where did you get the thermal pads from. Beats the heck out of using artic silver for everything everytime, and wasting most of it. i always end up using 1/4th of what gets squeezed out.

Actually, there's no pill on these at all.

Scratch that - there is, in a separate bag. I've sort of ignored them. Probably should take another look.

ohhh...thats right, i requested Matt to include the pill, the led, and the batteries that came with the host. I figured i was gonna need it so yea...helps with the negative connection so i dont have to mod nothing.

No, it's not Moh's fault - he included them for me too, I just ignored them foolishly - though I like my result ;)

I've never had 1.5W in such a small host.

hey were these those 110 Lumen flashlights.
If they are how much you want for just the LED.

I didn't keep the LED's. They were included with each of the kits.
That's a sweet build RHD. I'll take the getting hot fast as a good sign that the heat is being transferred to the surface for dissipation.
